ORANGE AND HONEY GLAZED SHRIMP

Orange and Honey Glazed Shrimp image

A delicious, quick and easy recipe of tender, plump shrimp bathing in a sweet n' spicy orange glaze served with jasmine rice.

Provided by Kim Peterson

Categories     Dinner     Lunch     Main Course

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 ½ cups fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (, optional)
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
4 tablespoon olive oil (, divided)
2 pounds shrimp ((21-25 count), cleaned, deveined, tails removed)
Kosher salt and black pepper
3 green onions (, thinly sliced)
2 tablespoons fresh parsley (, chopped, plus extra for garnish)
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (, chopped, plus extra for garnish)
Steamed jasmine rice (, for serving)

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, bring the orange juice, zest, honey, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes to a boil. Reduce heat to medium.
  • In a small bowl, combine the water and cornstarch. Whisk mixture into the saucepan. Simmer 5 minutes until thickened and bubbly.
  • Keep sauce warm on medium-low heat while sautéing the shrimp.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a cast-iron skillet or high-rimmed, large sauté pan over medium-high heat.
  • Season shrimp with salt and pepper. Add half of the shrimp to the pan. Cook until just opaque in center, about 2 minutes on each side.
  • Transfer shrimp to a medium bowl. Cover with foil to keep warm. Ditch oil in the skillet and wipe with a paper towel.
  • Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons in the skillet. Repeat cooking the remaining shrimp, about 2 minutes per side.
  • Return the first batch of shrimp to the pan. Stir in the orange honey glaze.
  • Remove pan from heat. Add green onions (reserve some for garnish), parsley and cilantro. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Serve shrimp with cooked rice. Garnish with extra parsley, cilantro and sliced green onions. Enjoy!

½ cup canola oil
1 cup tupelo honey
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Time 40m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 1/2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Kosher salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
5 blood oranges
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
8 ounces snow peas, trimmed
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/3 cup dried chiles de arbol (about 24) or other small dried chiles
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced peeled ginger
4 scallions, cut into 1- to 2-inch pieces
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Cooked white rice, for serving

Steps:

  • Season the shrimp with 1/2 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Add the cornstarch and toss to coat; set aside. Juice 3 blood oranges into a small bowl; add the vinegar, honey, ketchup, sesame oil and 1/2 teaspoon salt and whisk to combine. Quarter the remaining 2 oranges and thinly slice; set aside.

  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and the chiles to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly toasted, about 1 minute. Add the garlic and ginger. Cook, stirring, until golden, about 30 seconds. Add the blood orange juice mixture and bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring, until slightly thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Return the shrimp to the skillet and stir until warmed through, about 1 minute. Add the snow peas, scallions and blood orange slices; toss to combine. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds and serve with rice.

MISO-HONEY SHRIMP STIR FRY

Miso-Honey Shrimp Stir Fry image

Miso is a fermented soy bean paste that is loaded with all things savory, sweet, and deliciously right about East Asian cuisine. I know it may feel a bit like an over-commitment when you pick up that tub from the grocery store, but go with me on this one. The further down the miso rabbit hole you dig, the more you'll wonder just how it is you got so far, for so long, without it.

Provided by Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 20m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/3 cup miso
3 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sriracha
1 tablespoon peanut or canola oil
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup snow peas, sliced in half
3 cups steamed white rice
1 1/2 cups mung bean sprouts

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the miso, honey, soy sauce and sriracha. Set aside.
  • Place a large skillet over high heat with the oil. Add the shrimp to the skillet and stir-fry until the shrimp just begin to turn pink, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the garlic, bell pepper, carrots and snow peas to the pan and continue stir-frying until the vegetables just begin to tenderize, about 1 minute. Add the reserved sauce to the skillet and stir-fry until the shrimp is cooked through and the sauce has thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Adjust the seasoning with soy sauce and sriracha. Serve the stir-fry over the steamed rice garnished with the bean sprouts.

STIR-FRY SHRIMP WITH SPICY ORANGE SAUCE

Stir-Fry Shrimp With Spicy Orange Sauce image

From Cooking Light. Just like Chinese takeout or PF Chang's Orange Peel Shrimp (without the orange peel). This takes no time to make and you already have most of the ingredients. We halved the recipe and cooked up 11 large shrimp from Costco for 2 people. At first we burned the garlic and ginger, so we started over and turned the heat down to medium. Enjoy! ** I took note from a reviewer and added some steamed broccoli with the sauce in step 6 - AWESOME! **

  • Wine note: Stir-Fried Shrimp with Spicy Orange Sauce needs a wine with a lot of bold fruit to go up against the "punch" of chiles, ginger, and garlic. My favorite choice, rosé, may be conventional, but wait until you taste a good one. Rosés are fruity (like many red wines) but cool and refreshing (like a white). Try Marqués de Cáceras Rosé 2006 from Rioja, Spain. It's a steal at $ --Karen MacNeil
