APPLE CIDER-GLAZED PORK CHOPS RECIPE

Apple Cider-Glazed Pork Chops Recipe image

This apple cider-glazed pork chops recipe is easy enough for everyday but elegant enough for company!

Provided by Cheryl Najafi

Categories     dinner

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 lbs pork loin chops (boneless )
salt
pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp oil
1 cup apple cider
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp honey
2 tsp Dijon mustard
salt and pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Pat pork chops dry using a paper towel then season on both sides with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, chili powder and flour together until completely combined.
  • Sprinkle each pork chop with seasoned flour then pat to coat evenly. Set pork chops aside to allow flour to absorb moisture released by the pork chops.
  • Place a large skillet over medium-high heat then allow the pan to heat evenly. Add oil then place as many pork chops as will comfortably fit into skillet without overcrowding the pan.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes until dark golden brown on the first side, then flip and cook on second side to desired doneness or until just barely cooked though-additional 1-2 minutes depending on thickness. Transfer pork chops to a plate, cover lightly with a sheet of aluminum foil and set aside.
  • Return skillet to heat then add apple cider, vinegar, honey and Dijon to skillet, whisking to combine. Bring mixture to a boil, scraping the bottom of the pan to dissolve all of the brown bits into the cider.
  • Allow liquid to boil rapidly for about 6-8 minutes until it becomes thick and has reduced by slightly more than half. Remove from heat then season glaze to taste with salt and pepper. Return pork chops to skillet, turning to coat in glaze, or pour glaze over pork chops and serve immediately.

HONEY-MUSTARD PORK CHOPS WITH APPLES AND ONIONS

Honey-Mustard Pork Chops with Apples and Onions image

In an experiment to test my ability to cook without using a recipe, I whipped this up for my family. It may not be the most creative recipe, but my husband stood at the oven spooning the sauce into his mouth after we finished eating - so I'm going to say this worked out well!

1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken stock
½ cup honey mustard (such as Heinz®)

Cook until onions start to become opaque, about 5 minutes more. Add chicken stock, honey, and thyme. Categories     Main

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
3-4 boneless pork chops
1 teaspoon kosher salt
8-10 cranks of fresh-ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 medium apples (Honey Crisp, Gala, Fuji, or Golden Delicious)
1/2 medium red onion
3/4 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup apple cider (optional)
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage
2 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary

Steps:

  • Warm 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle both sides of the pork chops with salt, pepper, and cinnamon, then add them to the hot skillet.
  • Sear the pork chops for 3-4 minutes, until browned on the bottom, then flip and continue to cook for about 4-5 minutes, until they reach 145 degrees in the middle. Remove pork chops to a plate, tent with foil, and set aside.
  • While the pork chops are cooking, core and thinly slice the apples, chop the onion into small wedges, and whisk the chicken broth, apple cider, and mustard together in a liquid measuring cup.
  • After removing pork chops, add the butter and remaining tablespoon olive oil to the skillet, then add the apples, onions, sage, and rosemary. Saute for 2-3 minutes, then pour in the broth mixture. Use a wooden spoon to gently scrape the bottom of the pan and release any brown bits.
  • Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, then return pork chops to the pan, nestling them in between the apples. Spoon the sauce over the chops, and serve with fresh herbs, if desired.

PAN-SEARED PORK CHOPS WITH CARAMELIZED APPLES

Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Caramelized Apples image

Pork Chops with Apples is a simple dinner recipe perfect for any time of year! The apples are caramelized in butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, and honey. The pork chops are pan-seared to a beautiful golden-brown crust and are tender, juicy, and moist.

Provided by Julia

Categories     Main Course

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 green apple (Granny Smith)
1 red apple (Gala)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter (divided)
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 tablespoons honey
1.5 lb pork loin chops (boneless (4 pork chops))
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil
fresh thyme

Steps:

  • Pat dry pork chops with paper towels.
  • Brush pork chops with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Allow the pork chops to rest while you prepare the apples as follows below. This brings pork chops closer to room temperature which will help them sear better.
  • I used 2 apples (1 red Gala apple and 1 green Granny Smith apple, for presentation purposes). Core the apples and slice each one length-wise.
  • Place sliced apples into a large bowl, add brown sugar, cinnamon, and mix. Let apples sit for about 10 minutes to release juices.
  • In a large pan (I used a large stainless steel skillet), heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil on high heat. Add sliced apples (without juice at the bottom of the pan) and cook on high heat for about 3 minutes on one side, checking periodically. After 3 or 5 minutes, flip sliced apples to the other side, reduce heat to medium and cook the apples for another 3 or 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Cook the apples in a single layer, without overcrowding to get a slightly "roasted" appearance. That means you might have to cook apples in 2 batches. Use the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter for the second batch.
  • Depending on how hot your stove gets, it might take you less or more time to cook apples, the key is to brown them or even get a slightly "burned" effect. But don't overdo it, remove the cooked apples from the skillet once the apples have this "roasted" appearance.
  • Right after you remove the pan with roasted sliced apples from the heat, immediately add honey to the hot skillet - it will make apples sizzle and will caramelize them beautifully, off the heat.
  • For best searing results, use a cast-iron skillet. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes to heat it through.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil - the oil should shimmer. Add the pork chops, and cook them on one side for 5 minutes, without moving.
  • Reduce the heat to medium, flip the pork chops over to the other side, and cook them on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Cook longer (depending on the thickness of your pork chops) until the pork chops are cooked through.
  • Spoon the cooked apples, together with the sauce from cooking the apples, over the pork chops. Top with fresh thyme.

  • Wash the potatoes and cut the larger ones in half. Do not peel. Add to a roasting pan with a drizzle of oil and a generous pinch of salt. Put the pan in the oven while you core and slice two of the apples into thick wedges (reserving the other for the pork). Add these to the pan with the potatoes, alongside the garlic cloves, thyme, and a smattering of black pepper. Cook for 45 minutes, turning once.
