BROWN SUGAR BACON TWISTS

A once-a-year comfort food for all that they're bad for you, these are sinfully delicious! Popular with girls (of all ages!) at slumber parties.

1/3 cup packed light-brown sugar or 10 packets Splenda sugar substitute
1 teaspoon mustard powder, to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
12 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F; soak 12 bamboo skewers in warm water (so they won't burn in oven).
  • Line the bottom of broiler a pan with foil for ease of cleaning, then top with broiler-pan rack.
  • Mix together brown sugar (or heat-stable sugar substitute, for diabetics and lowcarbers), mustard powder, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Pour onto waxed paper and lightly shake paper to spread mixture evenly.
  • One strip at a time, press the bacon into the sugar mixture to coat.
  • Twist each piece of coated bacon into a bamboo skewer and place on broiler-pan rack.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees F, until almost crisp and sugar coating is bubbly.
  • Let strips cool 5 minutes before serving.

There is another similar recipe on here but doesn't have the added spices that I think make this so special. I do got this from another sight and made it for three very hungry Man-Cubs breakfast and they ALL rated it 5 stars. One called it "candy bacon" Hope you like it too. Nest time I'm thinking I'll cut back on the brown sugar as I had a LOT left over - but left it here as in the original recipe.

1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 lb bacon, slices

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire rack over the foil. Use a baking sheet that has sides to catch the grease.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar, mustard powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper.
  • Press each slice of bacon into the mixture until coated.
  • Twist each strip a few times and place on the prepared baking rack.
  • Bake until bacon is browned and crisp enough to hold its shape, about 30 minutes.

4 chicken breasts
4 slices of your favorite smoked bacon
lemon pepper
honey
cornstarch

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butterfly your chicken breasts. To butterfly simply slice your chicken breast in half short ways, stopping before you slice it into 2 pieces, it should open like a book.
  • Place in a foil lined baking dish.
  • Sprinkle both sides of the open butterflied chicken breast with lemon pepper. Drizzle honey on one side.
  • Cut one slice of bacon to fit inside the breast, be sure to use the entire slice of bacon. Arrange the bacon on the side of the chicken you drizzled the honey,.
  • Drizzle bacon with honey and fold the chicken breast over covering the bacon.
  • Sprinkle honey and lemon pepper on the outside of the chicken breast, repeat with the remaining chicken breasts.
  • Cover tightly with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Remove breasts and add enough cornstarch to thicken the pan drippings.
  • Serve over chicken breasts.

1/2 cup warm water (100 to 110 F)
4 teaspoons yeast, Fleischmann's Active Dry
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
2 large eggs
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (King Arthur Unbleached White)
4 1/2 cups unbleached bread flour (King Arthur )
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 1/2 ounces instant lemon pudding mix (1 package)
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
2 -3 tablespoons cream

Steps:

  • In electric mixer bowl, combine water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Stir in sour cream, dry milk, eggs, butter, sugar, salt, white whole wheat flour and bread flour.
  • With dough hook, knead on low speed 5 minutes.
  • Put dough into a greased bowl, cover, let rise till double.
  • Punch down dough.
  • Roll dough into rectangle, 18 x 10 inches; cut into eighteen 1-inch strips.
  • In a 9-inch glass pie plate melt butter.
  • In a second pie plate, combine pudding and pie mix and coconut.
  • Dip each strip in melted butter, then into coconut mixture.
  • Twist and hold one end of strip down on greased baking sheet for the

  • Place remaining butter or coconut mixture on top of twists.
  • Cover twists, let rise in warm place until double.
  • Bake in preheated 350°F oven 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove rolls to a wire rack.
  • For frosting, combine confectioners' sugar, lemon extract, almond extract and cream until frosting is smooth and of spreadable consistency.
  • Frost warm rolls.
  • Makes 18 rolls.

Use as appetizers or addition to a brunch. I copied part of this recipe from a caterer but then added and deleted some ingredients so now it is mine refined. You can made ahead and then reheat. Easy and kids love to make this recipe since it requires kitchen scissors.

2 lbs thick cut sliced bacon
1/2 cup honey
3 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons lemon pepper

Steps:

  • Unwrap the bacon.
  • Cut the entire sliced slab in half with kitchen scissors. Each slice is about 6 inches in length.
  • Cut each end about 1 to 1-1/2 inches to the middle.
  • Take the strips on each end and tie in a knot with the strips on the other end. If you have 15 long strips of bacon you will have 30 bacon knots to each pound. Two pounds would be 60 bacon knots.
  • Place bacon knots on a baking sheet with raised sides.
  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • In small microwave proof bowl, pour honey, lemon juice, cover, microwave until hot, 30 seconds, then stir with spoon, microwave another 30 seconds.
  • Pour over bacon twists.
  • Sprinkle with lemon pepper.
  • Bake 15 minutes.
  • Turn with fork every five minutes.
  • Place on paper towels. Pat with towels.
