I went looking for a homemade hypoallergenic skin cream for extremely dry skin. I found this: http://www.creativelysouthern.com/2013/12/cure-dry-winter-skin-homemade-lotion-recipe.html#sthash.NApnjMyz.dpbs I did not want to use anything with petroleum jelly so I went looking for natural alternatives. These ingredient substitutions for that recipe are what I found.

Number Of Ingredients 5

30 ounce(s) johnson's vanilla oatmeal baby lotion
7-9 ounce(s) waxelene made of organic soy oil, beeswax, organic rosemary oil, and natural vitamin e (from soybeans)
4 ounce(s) fruit of the earth vitamin e skin care cream
8 ounce(s) extra virgin coconut oil
8 jar(s) 8 ounce wide mouth ball canning jars

Steps:

  • Put all 4 ingredients in a large bowl
  • Mix everything in a large mixing bowl. I used my hand mixer to combine everything until it was smooth and creamy.
  • Spoon the mixture into your jars and that's it.

To make a classic chocolate egg cream, you'll only need three ingredients: ice-cold milk, fizzy seltzer, and chocolate syrup.

Number Of Ingredients 4

½ cup whole milk
Seltzer, chilled, to top
¼ cup store-bought or homemade chocolate syrup
A long-handled spoon; a seltzer siphon (optional)

Steps:

  • Pour ½ cup whole milk into a 16-oz. glass and place spoon in glass. Pour seltzer (or squirt if using siphon) into glass to reach ½" below rim; a snow-white foam will develop. Pour ¼ cup chocolate syrup into center of white foam, then stir in syrup and remove spoon through center of foam. Ginger invigorates, and oil soothes. Try this double dose for dry skin. Adapted from Homemade Beauty Recipes.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 inches piece fresh ginger
2 teaspoons light sesame oil
2 teaspoons apricot kernel oil
2 teaspoons vitamin E
1/2 cup cocoa butter

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven on the lowest setting. Finely grate the ginger just enough so that you have about an 1/8 teaspoon of ginger juice. To obtain the juice, squeeze the freshly grated ginger over a small bowl.
  • Place the ingredients, including the ginger in a glass or stainless steel pan and heat just until the cocoa butter is melted and the oils are blended.
  • Pour into a clean, dry container and store in a cool dry place. You can add a few drops of lemon or other essential oil for a nice twist. Relax, and enjoy!

  • Combine the water, drops of essential oil, and vitamin E oil (if using) in a liquid measuring cup. Set aside while you heat the other ingredients.
  • Combine the sweet almond oil, the coconut oil, the liquid lanolin and the grated beeswax in a small pan. Set the pan over a double boiler and heat over low heat just until the oils and beeswax are melted.
  • Transfer the oils to your blender and allow to cool to room temperature. You will know they are at room temperature when the mixture appears to solidify a bit, and is cream colored. If you choose to speed cooling of the oils in the refrigerator, make sure to check frequently so the mixture does not get too hard.
  • When the oils have cooled, turn on your blender at its highest speed. Slowly pour the water mixture into the center of the whirling oils. (It’s very important to pour the water in a slow trickle because your goal is to create an emulsion.) When most of the water has been added, you will notice your cream starting to thicken. This is good! When the cream looks nice and thick and most or all of the water has been added, turn off the blender and mix in the rest of the water by hand with a spoon or a rubber spatula.
