GLUHWEIN
A very warming and very tasteful wintery drink that will warm you from within. This is a well known and very well "USED" recipe in the mountains of Europe. There are many variations to this recipe. I think this is by far the best.

GLUEHWEIN / GLUHWEIN
This is a traditional German/Austrian holiday drink that is often enjoyed after a chilly day of skiing. I got this recipe from Else on Allrecipes.com and can't wait to try it. I modified it slightly based on its reviews.

HOW TO MAKE TRADITIONAL GERMAN GLüHWEIN
Glühwein is a spiced red wine that's traditionally served at Christmas markets in Germany and Austria. Translated roughly as "glowing wine" which refers to the temperature the wine is heated to, this holiday drink is meant to warm you up as you make your way around the market stalls, chatting and shopping and will ensure you won't get cold.Mulled wine, as we call it in English, is actually really simple to make and even better, it's easy to make large batches which makes it perfect for entertaining over the holidays.Making mulled wine is simple but it does involve a little bit more than just heating the wine - it's a delicate balance of spices (cinnamon, star anise, cloves), citrus fruits, alcohol and sugar. Play around with the ratios to see what you like best. Mull your wine early to fill your house with the wonderful smells of the season to greet your guests as they arrive. Keep the pot on very low heat through the party and keep an eye on it - you'll surely need to make more at some point!

This mulled wine is really simple and simply perfect for a winter evening. It always gets awesome reviews from guests and is SO much better than the store bought bottles or sachets! You can use really cheap wine for this, the cheaper the better!

GLUHWEIN (MULLED WINE)
This very easy recipe comes from Winemaker magazine. I liked it because I had all of the ingredients on hand, it is really fast, and because it warmed me up and helped alleviate the symptoms of the cold I had at the time. According to the recipe source, the mixture can be kept warm in a crockpot, or on a coffee warmer (covered) for several hours, and can be successfully reheated the next day. (Mine never lasted long enough for me to testify to the above statement.)

This recipe came from my husband's best friend who is a U.S. Marine. He had this drink in Germany. It is served in Germany outside in the winter and it really warms you up! Thanks Mike! This works best with a full bodied red wine.
