Parmesan Herb Drop Biscuits image

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 30m

Yield 6 biscuits

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 heaping tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Pinch of garlic powder
1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, cold, cut into small pieces, plus 2 tablespoons, melted, for brushing
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh oregano, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
3/4 cup whole milk

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Put the flour, baking powder, salt and garlic powder in a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Add the cold butter and pulse until the dry ingredients and the butter are mostly combined. (If you do not have a food processor, this can be done with a pastry cutter.)
  • Add the Parmesan, parsley, oregano and thyme. Drizzle in the milk and pulse (or stir in with a wooden spoon) until the mixture has just turned into a dough. Be careful not to overmix, as the biscuits will become tough when baked if you do.
  • Using 2 large spoons, drop 1/2-cup sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet. This will make 6 generously sized biscuits.
  • Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes, depending on your oven. Brush the warm biscuits with the melted butter. Enjoy!

HERBED BISCUITS (QUICK AND EASY)

Herbed Biscuits (Quick and Easy) image

These are made with refrigerated biscuits, all dressed up with some butter and seasoned with onion, garlic, basil/dillweed, poppy seeds and parmesan cheese. Not gourmet, but sometimes you need something quick and easy!

Provided by breezermom

Categories     Quick Breads

Time 26m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon onion, instant minced
1 teaspoon dried dill or 1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon poppy seed
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 (10 ounce) can refrigerated buttermilk biscuits

Steps:

  • Pour the melted butter into an 8-inch round cakepan. Sprinkle onion, garlic, basil or dillweed, and poppy seeds evenly over the butter. Set aside.
  • Place the Parmesan cheese in a large heavy duty, zip-lock plastic bag. Cut each biscuit into 4 pices; add the biscuit pieces to the bag and shake them to coat.
  • Arrange the coated biscuit pieces in the prepared pan; I like to turn mine over a bit so all sides have a little bit of the seasoning. Sprinkle with any remaining Parmesan cheese from the zip-lock bag.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 14 to 16 minutes or until golden brown.

Herbed Biscuits with Sausage Gravy image

Savory homemade biscuits are topped with a creamy sausage gravy in this classic comfort food breakfast.

Provided by Danelle

Categories     Breakfast

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 cup flour, plus more for dusting
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cold butter
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 green onion, finely chopped (save whites for the gravy)
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon olive oil
Scallion whites (leftover from biscuits), finely chopped
1 pound pork breakfast sausage
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
4 tablespoons flour
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
Dash of cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Using a pastry cutter (I just use my hands) cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse sand.
  • Stir in the buttermilk, scallions and parsley until just combined. Do not over mix. Dough may still be slightly sticky.
  • Turn dough onto a floured work surface. Gently pat the dough out to 1/2 inch thick. Fold the dough over 3 or 4 times and pat it down again to about 3/4 inch thick.
  • Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or glass. Press out dough scraps to cut additional biscuits.
  • Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, make the gravy by heating olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the scallion whites and sauté them for about 1 minute, or until tender.
  • Add the sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until sausage is no longer pink.
  • Add the butter to the skillet and stir until melted. Stir in the flour and cook for a few minutes more. Stir in the milk and cream and bring to simmer. When the gravy has thickened, stir in the cayenne, salt and pepper.
  • Serve gravy over sliced biscuits. Garnish with parsley if desired.

  • Preheat the oven to 400°. Pierce the sweet potatoes all over with a fork. Set the potatoes on a cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour, or until tender. Let cool slightly. Using a spoon, scoop the potato flesh from the skins into a bowl and mash with a fork; you should have 1 1/2 cups of mashed sweet potatoes. Refrigerate until chilled.
  • In a large bowl, mix the 2 1/2 cups of flour with the brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cayenne pepper. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender. In a small bowl, mix the sweet potatoes with the milk. Add to the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until all of the flour is incorporated; the dough will be quite sticky. Refrigerate the dough for at least 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°. On a well-floured work surface, pat out the dough until it is 1/2-inch thick. Using a floured 2-inch round or fluted cutter, stamp out as many biscuits as you can and transfer them to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Re-roll the scraps and stamp out more biscuits. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the egg wash and press a small herb sprig into each one. Bake the biscuits for about 20 minutes, or until golden. Serve warm or at room temperature.
