15 WEIGHT LOSS OATMEAL RECIPES (#1 METABOLISM BOOSTING APPLE PIE OATMEAL)

15 Weight Loss Oatmeal Recipes (#1 Metabolism Boosting Apple Pie Oatmeal) image

This delicious healthy oatmeal recipe is sweet, creamy, and satisfying and will start your day with a nice warm tummy. Best of all, it tastes like a slice of apple pie!

Provided by Lose Weight By Eating

Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup old fashioned or steel cut oatmeal
2 cups almond milk
1 apple thinly sliced then cut into thirds (basically thin bite sized pieces)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons maple syrup (optional)
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce (if you have the little cups each is 1/2 cup)

Steps:

  • In a medium sauce pan combine the almond milk, oatmeal, cinnamon and maple syrup, heat on low until most of the milk is absorbed (stir as needed).
  • Once most of the milk is absorbed add in the apple sauce and stir together. If you like your apples soft add them in now too, if you like some crunch wait until you are about to serve to stir in.
  • Once all the apple sauce and milk is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes total, remove from heat and serve.

HEART HEALTHY OATMEAL

Heart Healthy Oatmeal image

This is something that I've done for years in order to perk up my oatmeal without adding calories. It takes a few minutes, but is worth it. I came up with the idea when I was tiring of the taste of plain oatmeal.

Provided by dogsandwoods

Categories     Breakfast

Time 8m

Yield 1 serving, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1/2 cup plain oatmeal (of your choice, but follow the serving size on the package)
1 cup water (again, follow the serving size on the package)

Steps:

  • Heat a medium skillet--I use cast iron--until it is medium hot to very hot.
  • Put all of the oatmeal that you will be cooking in the pan.
  • Stir constantly over medium high heat until oatmeal is just this side of dark brown. This gives it a nutlike flavor -- without the nuts and without the calories.
  • Cook as per box instructions.
  • You may add other cinnamon & sugar and/or raisins, but mind the calories.

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, stir the flaxseed meal with 6 tablespoons of water. Set aside while you prep the other ingredients, 5 to 10 minutes. The mixture should thicken and become a bit gelatinous — this is known as a "flax egg."
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the oats, flour, nuts, raisins, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt, and whisk together.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the oil, maple syrup, and flaxseed mixture, and whisk together. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until there are no dry bits of flour visible (do not over-mix).

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with silpat baking mats or parchment paper. (These cookies stick, even to the silicone, so if you are not using silicone, be sure to grease your pans.)
  • Note on mashing avocado: Place your avocado in a small bowl and mash with a potato masher, then measure out ½ cup. Alternately, if you’re worried about avocado lumps, you can puree the avocado in a food processor, then measure out ½ cup. One medium avocado is about ½ cup mashed.
  • Stir avocado and oil in a large bowl with a wooden spoon. Stir in both sugars. Add vanilla, egg, and cocoa and mix until smooth (there may be some lumps from the avocado). Stir in baking soda, salt, oats, and cinnamon. Carefully stir in flour. Dough will be wet.
  • At this point you can mix in the chocolate chips and/or walnuts if you’re using them. I pressed chocolate chips on the top of each cookie instead of mixing them in. Either way will work!
