It's time to create your own set of burger patties at home with our hamburger recipe. It's makes the meat simple and pairs it with a yummy ketchup gravy.

1 lb ground beef
½ cup ketchup
½ cup bread crumbs
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp or to taste steak seasoning
salt
to taste pepper
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 large cut into chunks onion
1 cup ketchup
½ cup or as needed water

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, ½ cup ketchup, bread crumbs, onion powder, steak seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Form into small fat hamburger patties, or meatballs.
  • Heat oil in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Place the patties in the skillet, and cook until browned on both sides.
  • Remove patties to a plate, and drain grease from the skillet.
  • In the same pan, slowly stir together the remaining ketchup and water if the mixture seems thin, add a bit more ketchup, or if it is thick, add more water.
  • Add the onion, and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low.
  • Return the patties to the pan, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Stir after the 30 minutes, and if the gravy is still thin, continue simmering with the lid off until gravy thickens.

These are sooooo great (and EZ)! I grew up eating these about once a week and they are incredible with mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles and a veggie. While this recipe is basically my mom's, I have changed one thing...instead of using chopped onion in the burgers, I use an envelope of onion soup mix...it gives them the PERFECT flavor! This is now one of my family's favorite meals...try it and it will probably become one of your's, too. P.S. These burgers also work for grilling (without the gravy :).

2 lbs ground beef
6 pieces bread, broken into small bits (potato bread works great, but I usually use white bread)
1 envelope onion soup mix, dry
to taste salt, to taste (because of the soup mix, you may not need it, although we still do)
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons parsley flakes
2 eggs
2 envelopes brown gravy mix
2 cups water

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef, bread, soup mix, salt, pepper, ketchup, garlic powder, parsley and eggs in a large bowl until well mixed.
  • Prepare each burger with approx 1/3 cup of meat mixture and form into patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Heat a 12" skillet over med-high heat and fry burgers for about 5 minutes on each side, until they are almost done.
  • Remove burgers to a plate and discard all but about a tablespoon of drippings from skillet.
  • Lower heat under skillet and prepare brown gravy with water in a bowl or measuring cup; slowly pour into skillet, stirring constantly, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom.
  • When gravy has thickened, place burgers back in the pan and cover.
  • Simmer for about 20 minutes, or until burgers are done.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

  • In a pan, add in chopped onion, drizzle in oil, and saute on medium heat for 4-5 minutes or until the onion is soft and slightly brown.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add ground beef, ground pork, panko, egg, salt and pepper, soy sauce, milk, and saute onions. Knead and mix thoroughly until everything is combined. This process may take around 3-5 minutes to keep kneading until the meat becomes sticky.
  • Form patty into your desire size; I recommend making eight patties. Using your hands, form the patty into a ball. Make a dent in the middle and add cheese cubes. Push it downwards and add more ground meat before tightly forming it into a ball. Toss between two hands at least 5-10 times to push out all the air bubbles. Let it rest in the freezer for 10 minutes. I like to keep it as a ball as I find it is easier to move it to the pan later on before frying.
  • Drizzle oil into a pan and turn the heat to medium-high. Once the pan is hot, add in the beef patties. Using your thumb, make a dent in the middle to prevent the meat from exploding. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. Add in ¼ cup of Red Wine and ¼ cup of Water. Put the lid on and let it cook for 5 minutes. This steaming process makes the patty EXTRA juicy.
