HAWAIIAN BARBECUE PIZZA

Hawaiian Barbecue Pizza image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound refrigerated pizza dough, at room temperature
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into rings
1 bunch scallions, green parts finely chopped
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 tomato, diced
1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese (about 4 ounces)
1/2 cup shredded muenster cheese (about 2 ounces)
1/4 pound deli-sliced ham, cut into large pieces

Steps:

  • Put an inverted baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven and preheat to 475 degrees F. Line another inverted baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush the dough with the olive oil and center it on the parchment. Cover with another piece of parchment; set aside.
  • Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the pineapple rings until marked, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate. Grill the scallion whites, turning, until charred, about 4 minutes. Transfer to the plate with the pineapple.
  • Combine the barbecue sauce and tomato in a small bowl. Stretch the pizza dough to 10 by 14 inches on the parchment; spread the barbecue sauce mixture on top. Sprinkle with the pepper jack and muenster cheese and top with the grilled pineapple, ham and scallion whites and greens.
  • Slide the pizza (on the parchment) onto the hot baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is golden, about 15 minutes. Transfer the pizza to a cutting board and slice.

HAWAIIAN-STYLE SHEET-PAN PIZZA

Hawaiian-Style Sheet-Pan Pizza image

Pineapple can be a divisive pizza topping - people either love it or hate it. I'm a big fan of all things sweet and salty, so Hawaiian pizza is my go-to. I add a bit of red onion and green bell pepper for a pop of freshness.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h

Yield One 11-by-17-inch pizza

Number Of Ingredients 21

2 pounds All-Purpose Pizza Dough (recipe follows)
Extra-virgin olive oil, for the baking sheet
1 cup pizza sauce (recipe follows)
1 8-ounce bag shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (about 2 cups)
6 ounces Canadian bacon, diced
1 20-ounce can sliced pineapple rings, drained and diced
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
1/2 red onion, diced
Red pepper flakes, for topping
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110˚ F)
2 cups bread flour
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for the bowl
One 15-ounce can crushed tomatoes
1 grated small garlic clove
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
Pinch of sugar, salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Make the dough and let rise, covered, on an 11-by-17-inch rimmed baking sheet coated with 3 tablespoons olive oil instead of in a bowl. At the end of the rising time, preheat the oven to 450˚ F (use the convection setting, if available) with a pizza stone, baking steel or inverted large baking sheet on a rack in the lower third of the oven.
  • Gently stretch and press the dough to cover the pan as much as possible. Let stand 30 minutes, then gently press and stretch the dough again, if needed, to cover the pan.
  • Top the dough with the pizza sauce, half of the mozzarella, the Canadian bacon, pineapple, bell pepper and red onion, then sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella.
  • Place the baking sheet on the hot stone and bake the pizza until the crust is golden brown, 20 to 24 minutes. Let cool slightly, then remove to a cutting board. Top with red pepper flakes.
  • Sprinkle the yeast over the hot water in a small bowl. Let stand until dissolved and slightly foamy, 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, whisk the bread flour, all-purpose flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the center. Pour the yeast mixture into the well and add the olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, dust the dough with flour and knead, dusting with more flour as needed, until very smooth and elastic but still slightly tacky, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours. Divide the dough into two 1-pound balls. (If making sheet-pan pizza, let the dough rise, covered, on an 11-by-17-inch rimmed baking sheet coated with 3 tablespoons olive oil instead of in a bowl; do not divide into two balls.)
  • If not using the dough right away, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Bring to room temperature before using.
  • Combine crushed tomatoes, garlic clove, olive oil, dried oregano and a pinch each of sugar, salt and pepper in a medium bowl; season with more salt and sugar if needed. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

PIE IRON HAWAIIAN PIZZA

Pie Iron Hawaiian Pizza image

Whether or not Hawaiian pizza truly originated in Hawaii, the salty-sweet combination of pineapple and ham has its many fans. This camping-friendly version relies on ingredients that travel well (in a cooler) and can be found at just about any market. Plus it's fun: You encase the toppings in between two pieces of dough, seal it in a pie iron and cook over an open fire as you would a marshmallow. You want it close enough to the flame so the pizza gets nice and toasted but not so close that it will scorch-- and then turn, turn, turn. Patience is a virtue!

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

One 13.8-ounce tube refrigerated pizza dough
4 canned pineapple slices, patted dry
1/4 cup pizza sauce
1/4 cup chopped deli ham (about 2 ounces)
1/2 cup shredded low moisture part skim mozzarella (about 2 ounces)

Steps:

  • Prepare a campfire or a charcoal grill for medium-high heat.
  • Unroll the pizza dough and cut it into 8 even pieces, roughly the size of the pie iron. Open the pie iron and place one piece of dough in one side. Top with 1 slice pineapple, 1 tablespoon pizza sauce, 1 tablespoon ham and 2 tablespoons mozzarella. Place another piece of dough on top and pinch the sides together to seal.
  • Close the pie iron and cook over the fire or grill, rotating every 2 or 3 minutes, until golden all over, about 8 minutes total depending on the heat of your fire. Transfer the pizza to a plate. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to cook 3 more pizzas.
