Steps:
- In a large pot, bring 6 quarts of salted water to a boil. Have ready a large bowl of ice water. Place broccoli into pot and cook for 2 minutes. You just want to parboil the broccoli at this point since you will saute it later on. Using a spider strainer, remove broccoli from pot and shock it in a bowl of ice water. When broccoli is completely cool, place it in a colander and allow to drain. Refresh the bowl of ice water. Bring the water back to a boil. Add green beans and cook for 4 minutes. Like the broccoli, you just want to parboil the green beans. Remove green beans from pot with spider strainer and add to ice water. When green beans are completely cool, add them to the colander and allow to drain.
- In a large saute pan, heat olive oil. When almost smoking, add the garlic and saute for about 45 seconds. When the garlic starts to brown, remove immediately and discard. Overcooking the garlic will impart a very bitter taste to the dish. Add the red pepper flakes, broccoli and green beans to the pan and cook for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.

GREEN BEANS GRILLED IN FOIL
While grilling out, we decided to try grilling fresh green beans. After having this, we will never have green beans another way. I use my own mixture of 'silly salt' for this recipe--equal amounts of pepper, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder, but seasoned salt works as well.

GARLIC ASPARAGUS AND GREEN BEANS
This recipe could not be easier. It's ready in minutes and is good hot, room temp or cold. If you like your green beans a little more tender you need to put them in the pan first to give them a little more cooking time. I make this when I have the ingredients fresh in the garden and the flavors are so bright and simple. You can add baby carrots too if you have them.

GREEN BEAN AND ASPARAGUS SALAD
Very tasty salad of roasted asparagus and green beans. I got the inspiration when I was indecisive about choosing between the two vegetables for a side dish. Roasting the vegetables brings out their great flavor and the addition of cherry tomatoes, onion, and fresh parsley give it a lovely color.

- Combine all the vegetables in a large bowl as they are chopped. NOTE: If using any "hard" vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and cauliflower, steam them until tender-crisp first.
- Add mixture to a grill basket over high heat in a grill that's been preheated. Evenly distribute them, cover the grill and let them sit without stirring for a few minutes to help the juices evaporate (this will be less if making only a few cups of veggies, more if the basket is full - you get the idea).
- Stir them around, close the grill lid again and cook for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally. This may be less depending on the vegetable (especially single, smaller vegetables like green beans) - keep a good watch on them, as with any grilled foods.

- Place the green beans directly on the grill grates and grill for about 4 to 5 minutes per side (8 to 10 minutes total), until charred and tender. (For a less charred result, you can cook them in grill basket for 12 to 14 minutes until tender.)
- Remove the beans from the grill and spritz them with lemon juice from wedges. Taste and add a few more pinches of kosher salt, if needed.
