This is one of my favorite childhood "Treet"'s. My granny Peg went to Hawaii when I was eight years old and when she came back she used to make this for dinner for me on special occasions. In 2008 I asked granny to send me a copy of the recipe, I thought of it every now and again and wanted to be able to share it with my family,...

Number Of Ingredients 9

Ingredients

2 Tbsp corn starch
1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1 can(s) reserved pineapple juice from 13 1/4 oz can of pineapple
1 c water
1 can(s) treet or spam meat
2 Tbsp white vinegar
1 c green pepper sliced
2 c cooked white rice
1/2 c chow mein noodles

Steps:

1. Place brown sugar, corn starch and pineapple juice and water in a pan. Cook, stirring constantly until clear and thick.
2. Stir in a can of Armour Treet meat or Spam meat. Cut into 1" cubes. Add in the pineapple chunks and bell pepper slices.
3. Cook until heated through, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve over hot rice and top with chow mein noodles.

My Granny always made this for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef
1 onion, finely diced
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup instant rice
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons white sugar
6 slices American cheese

Steps:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place ground beef and onions in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until beef is evenly brown. Drain any excess fat.
Add the soup, rice, tomatoes, garlic powder, thyme, oregano and sugar. Mix well and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Place in a 9x13 inch casserole dish.
Top with cheese slices and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until cheese is bubbling and browning.
