This is the recipe that my Grandmother handed down to me. I always make it during blueberry season. My guests just love it!

1 ½ cups white sugar
½ cup butter, softened
2 large eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
4 cups fresh blueberries
1 ⅓ cups white sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅔ cup cold butter, cut into cubes

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Prepare buckle: beat sugar and butter in a bowl using an electric mixer until creamy and smooth. Beat in eggs. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl. Stir flour mixture into creamed butter mixture, alternating with milk, until batter is just combined; fold in blueberries. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Prepare topping: combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon together in a bowl. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives until topping is crumbly. Sprinkle topping over batter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes. Cool buckle on a wire rack.

For the cake:
1 large or 2 small eggs
3/4 cup milk
6 tbsp butter
3 cup flour
3 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3 cups blueberries
For the topping:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
3/4 tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp soft butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine eggs and milk. Cream in sugar and butter. Next add flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well and fold in blueberries. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan and put mixture in pan. Combine the 4 ingredients for the topping, mixing until crumbly. Sprinkle over blueberry mixture and bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

My grandma cut out this recipe from the Daily Herald newspaper many years ago. I think it may be the best coffeecake I've ever had.

1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/3 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 tablespoons butter
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, room temperature
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups fresh blueberries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 385 degrees. Grease a 9- or 10-inch pie plate.
  • For the streusel topping, use a fork and a small bowl to blend the sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and butter until crumbly. Set aside.
  • For the cake, sift together flour, baking powder and salt into a medium bowl.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg, milk and vanilla and beat until smooth. Mix in the dry ingredients, then fold in the blueberries.
  • Spread cake mixture into prepared pie dish and sprinkle with streusel topping. Bake 50-60 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, if possible.

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Pour into an ungreased 8-in. square baking pan. Arrange blueberries on top. , In another bowl, cream butter and sugar. Combine flour and cinnamon; add gradually to creamed mixture. Crumble over blueberries. , Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes.

1/3 cup cold butter, cubed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In a small bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add egg; beat well. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fold in blueberries. Spread into greased 9-in. square baking pan., For topping, in a small bowl, combine the sugar, flour and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over blueberry mixture. , Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 40-45 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. If desired, serve with whipped cream and additional blueberries.
