The best sweet potato casserole ever! This recipe was handed down to me by my mother-in-law. I get so many compliments on this dish and so many requests for this recipe. This really makes me look forward to Thanksgiving! You can use whatever chopped nuts you prefer.

4 (15.5 ounce) cans mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup white sugar
½ cup butter, softened
½ cup milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup flaked coconut
½ cup butter, softened

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Stir mashed sweet potatoes, white sugar, 1/2 cup butter, milk, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla together in a large bowl until smooth; transfer to a casserole dish.
  • Mix brown sugar, pecans, coconut, and 1/2 cup butter in a bowl; spread atop the filling.
  • Bake casserole in preheated oven until topping is golden brown, about 30 minutes.

3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2-1 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup pecans, chopped
1/4 cup margarine, softened

Steps:

  • Mix all the ingredients together (not the topping ingredients).
  • Put in 12" X 8" X 2" pan.
  • For the topping, mix margarine, sugar and nuts.
  • Put over potatoes.
  • Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes.

3 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup white sugar
½ cup milk
⅓ stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces and softened
2 large eggs, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup shredded coconut
⅓ stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces and softened

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  • Mix mashed sweet potatoes, white sugar, milk, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt together; transfer potato mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  • Mix brown sugar and flour for topping together in a large bowl. Add pecans, coconut, and butter; mix until well combined. Sprinkle over the casserole.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until topping is golden brown, about 25 minutes.

You know it is the holiday season when it is time to make this amazing casserole. My wife's grandmother made this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now it is our turn to pass on the tradition. Enjoy this southern favorite!

29 ounces mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons butter flavor extract
2 eggs
1/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour

Steps:

  • Mix the mixture ingredients together in a bowl; pour mixture into a greased 8" x 8" glass pan.
  • Mix the topping ingredients into a loose mixture; this is best done by melting the butter and slowly stirring it into the brown sugar and flour mixture. Once it is mixed completely, sprinkle it on top of the mixture in the glass pan.
  • Cook for 35 minutes at 350 degrees, uncovered.

1/4 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes.

Steps:

  • Combine 1/4 cup melted butter, soup, sour cream, onion, and cheese, mix in with hashbrowns, and place in a 9x13 baking pan.

This is an EASY recipe that my grandmother used to make. This is one of my favorites of hers. I don't like sweet potatoes, but I love these. I got the recipe from a friend of hers (she has passed) and decided to share. It's delicious and a sweet treat.

5 sweet potatoes
1 cup Karo syrup (brown)
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup margarine

Steps:

  • Boil sweet potatoes until fork tender. Allow to cool. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice into 1" slices.
  • In a bowl, stir together karo syrup, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.
  • Arrange sweet potato slices in 11"x14" casserole dish.
  • Pour mixture over potatoes.
  • Slice margarine into slices and arrange on the top.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove and mix the slices around. Put back in oven for 10-20 minute Serve hot.

If you are bringing this to a party, it can easily be reheated by covering it with aluminum foil, placing it in an oven at 350°F, and heating it for about 20-30 minutes or until just bubbling. Enjoy! Note: Prep time does NOT include time needed to prepate fresh sweet potatoes/yams.

5 lbs fresh sweet potatoes (6 cups) or 5 lbs yams, boiled, drained, peeled and mashed (6 cups)

2/3 cup butter or 2/3 cup margarine, melted
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cup finely chopped pecans
