Gluten-Free Garlic Green Beans image

From Betty's Soul Food Collection... Give this side dish the green light! In 15 minutes, you turn plain green beans to fabulous green beans, with a little garlic for flavor and a dash of red pepper for zip.

3 cups frozen cut green beans
1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Dash crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons slivered almonds, toasted, if desired

Steps:

  • Cook and drain green beans as directed on bag for stove-top directions.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients except almonds. Cook over low heat 1 to 2 minutes or until hot. Sprinkle with almonds.

Green bean casserole was always a staple in my childhood Thanksgiving feasts. Creamy sauces are tricky to get right without a flour thickener, and I find having a dish sauteed on the stove frees up room in the oven to get dinner out on time.

1 lb green beans, ends trimmed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon minced garlic
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup sliced almonds, toasted

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a frying/sauté pan over medium-low heat. Add green beans, garlic and salt and sauté until beans are cooked through, but still crispy-about 7 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in sliced almonds and serve.
