GARLIC-HERB BREADSTICKS

Garlic-Herb Breadsticks image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 1h30m

Yield 12 breadsticks

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 teaspoon active dry yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for sprinkling
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 clove garlic, minced
Chopped fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme and/or oregano), for sprinkling

Steps:

  • Put 3/4 cup warm water in a food processor. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes. Add the sugar and 1 teaspoon salt and pulse until dissolved. Add the flour, olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter and pulse until the dough forms a ball, about 1 minute. Continue to process with the motor running until smooth, about 2 more minutes.
  • Line 2 baking sheets with parchment; brush with olive oil. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a 12- to-16-inch rope. Arrange the ropes 1 1/2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets, rolling them to coat with the oil. Cover each baking sheet with a damp cloth and set aside in a warm place until the breadsticks double in size, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Put the remaining 3 tablespoons butter and the garlic in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave until melted, about 1 minute. Brush the breadsticks with the garlic butter; sprinkle with herbs and salt. Bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes.

PARMESAN AND GARLIC BREADSTICKS

Parmesan and Garlic Breadsticks image

These are really good and easy to prepare. They have a nice crisp crust and we loved the addition of the garlic salt on top. You can make these any size you want, from thin to larger. Just adjust the cook time. From TOH made my way. Cook time does not include the time it takes for the dough to rise. The amount of servings depends on how large you make the breadsticks.

Time 40m

Yield 3 dozen, 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 (1/4 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
1/2 cup warm milk (110-115 degrees)
2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons butter, divided and melted
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon instant minced garlic (McCormick)
3/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
4 1/2-5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt, for sprinkling on tops (to taste)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit until bubbly, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Add the milk, sugar, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, 3 tablespoons butter, salt, and 2 cups flour.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Stir in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  • Knead with bread hook for 7-8 minutes adding additional flour as needed.
  • Turn onto a floured surface and knead about 10-15 times.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  • Punch the dough down and let it rest a couple of minutes.
  • For thin bread sticks, divide into 36 pieces.
  • (This is very versatile here. You can make them as small or as large as you want. I cut mine into 18 pieces for a larger breadstick).
  • Shape each piece into a 6 inch rope.
  • Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25-35 minutes.
  • Melt remaining butter and brush over the dough.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garlic salt.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from pans to wire racks.

QUICK AND EASY GARLIC BREADSTICKS

Quick and Easy Garlic Breadsticks image

Provided by Orions Wife

Categories     Breads

Time 20m

Yield 2-3 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon dried parsley (for decoration) (optional)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1/2 cup margarine
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

Steps:

  • Measure your flour, salt, garlic powder, parsley, and baking powder into a big bowl. Stir the dry ingredients together so that they are evenly distributed throughout the flour. Now, pour in the milk. Stir with a big spoon until you have a ball of dough that leaves the sides of the bowl. You may have to dust the ball of dough with a little flour if it seems sticky to you. Gently knead the ball of dough right there in the bowl 5 or 6 times. Now place your dough on the counter. You may use a piece of waxed paper under the dough if you like. Using a rolling pin roll out the dough to a rectangular shape. If the edges become uneven, use your hands to reshape into a rectangle. It doesn't have to be perfect. You are aiming for a rectangle that will fi into a 9- by 13-inch pan. When you get the dough the right size, set it aside.
  • Meanwhile, place the margarine in the 9- by 13-inch pan and place the pan in a 425F oven to melt the margarine. When the margarine is melted, carefully remove the pan from the oven, so as not to burn yourself. Sprinkle the second teaspoon of garlic powder and the 1/2 teaspoon of salt into the pan. You do not have to use the extra salt. Now, very carefully, lay your rectangle of dough into the pan, over top of the margarine. Next cut the rectangle into narrow strips. One method of doing this is to cut the dough in half, then cut each half again, quartering the dough, and then cut each quarter into narrow strips. The margarine will creep up between the strips. This is normal. It is what gives these bread sticks their texture. After cutting your strips, place the pan in the oven, still at 425F, and bake them for 20 minutes. They will be browned and crispy when they are done.
  • The parsley is simply for decoration. It makes the bread sticks look more gourmet, but it adds little to the flavor or the texture. Leave it out if you don't have any, or are running low. If desired, you may sprinkle the bread sticks with a little bit of parmesan cheese before or after baking. This tastes good, but once again, is optional.

HOMEMADE GARLIC BREADSTICKS

Homemade Garlic Breadsticks image

This is a quick and very delicious way to make breadsticks. You can also mix in onions and herbs to give it more flare, but I like them this way. You can also get creative and roll out 24 individual strings of dough and twist two together at a time to make garlic twists.
