INSTANT POT SPICY BOILED PEANUTS

Instant Pot Spicy Boiled Peanuts image

Instant pot spicy boiled peanuts take only 30 minutes and are packed with bold nutty flavor.

Provided by Elizabeth Briskin

Categories     Snack

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pound raw peanuts
¼ cup salt
1½ tablespoons Cajun seasoning*
8 cups water

Steps:

  • Wash and drain the raw peanuts to remove any dirt.
  • Add the peanuts to the pressure cooking pot along with the salt, Cajun seasoning and water to cover. If you like, you can place the trivet that comes with the Instant Pot over the peanuts to make sure they stay immersed in the water.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the valve to seal. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes, if you prefer tender and crunchy peanuts. For soft peanuts, cook for 60 minutes at high pressure. When the cook time ends, let the pressure release naturally for 30 minutes.
  • Open the lid and allow the peanuts to sit in the cooked salty water for an hour. Serve and enjoy.

BOILED PEANUTS

Boiled Peanuts image

I grew up on Miami, my parents were from georgia...I can remember summers spent with cousins in the tobacca fields and I remember great big black iron pots at the family reunion with greens and another with boiled peanuts..they were good times! There was always a huge slab of smoked meat in the pot of peanuts...and my folks would always start a pot with smoked meat and hot peppers for those who like life "Spiced up" a bit. I still fix mine that way altho we don't have them often, Try it..especially if you are one who doesn't care for boiled peanuts..these will change your mind I hope! It is difficult for me to give the correct quantity of water and salt opposed to the peanuts as I never measure.

Time 3h

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 lbs green raw peanuts
water
1 cup salt
1 lb smoked ham hocks (may use ham bone) or 1 lb meat (may use ham bone)
hot pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • I had trouble putting in 2-3 lbs of green raw jumbo peanuts. I am new at posting -- please forgive.
  • Wash peanuts well to get rid of excess grit.
  • I always cover my peanuts with water add 1/2 the salt and bring to a boil for approx 15-20 minutes
  • Pour off that water and add more and the rest of the salt and smoked meat a cook until they are finished. You may need ro add more salt, this can be done as they cook and you begin to taste for doneness.
  • Usually a couple of hours on medium simmer.really to suit your own taste.I like mine fairly soft. Salt also is to your own taste. I split my batch in half most of the time and add hot peppers to taste as my kids love them hot.
  • Also, after they are finished cooking take them out of the water.if you don't they will continue to absorb the salt and will become way to salty.
  • Enjoy.and please let me know how you like them!

GREEN JUMBO BOILED PEANUTS

Green Jumbo Boiled Peanuts image

A staple snack in the south, it is difficult to drive down the highway in the Summer without running into a roadside stand selling "BOLLD P-NUTS" and the keg boiling beside the truck. Do it at home and get the same great taste!

Provided by MagnoliaFly

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 14h6m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

10 lbs green peanuts (jumbo or runners)
2 cups salt
15 quarts water (or enough to cover peanuts)

Steps:

  • Pour green peanuts into very large stockpot.
  • Fill with water, until pot is about 2/3 full leaving enough room for the pot to boil without overflowing.
  • Pour in salt and stir into water.
  • Turn on high heat and bring water to a boil.
  • Turn heat on low or med-low and keep it at a low boil or simmer.
  • Cook 10-12 hours slowly, stirring occasionally and taste water to see if salt is needed.
  • Turn off heat and allow to soak for an hour or two. Soaking allows the peanuts to really get the brine taste.
  • Reheat when you are ready to eat.
