THE PERFECT MARGARITA

The Perfect Margarita image

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

Provided by Chef John

Time 10m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 8

FRESH LIME MARGARITAS

Fresh Lime Margaritas image

This classic margarita recipe combines fresh lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and sugar over crushed ice in a glass rimmed with equal parts sugar and coarse salt. They're potent, no doubt about it, but the perfect ratio of lime to sugar to tequila to Triple Sec makes them go down easily - sometimes a little too easily - so watch yourself!

Provided by Kare for Kitchen Treaty

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 cups gold tequila
3/4 cup Triple Sec
3/4 cup fresh lime juice
4 tablespoons sugar (divided (2 tablespoons for the margaritas and 2 tablespoons for the rims of the glasses))
8 cups crushed ice
2 tablespoons kosher salt

Steps:

  • Stir together the tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, and 2 tablespoons sugar in a large pitcher. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Mix salt and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar on a small saucer. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glasses, then lightly dip the rims of the glasses into the saucer with sugar-salt mixture.
  • Carefully fill the glasses with crushed ice. Pour margarita into the glasses.
  • Garnish with lime slices, if desired.

MARGARITAS WITH FRESHLY SQUEEZED LIME JUICE

Margaritas with Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice image

Margaritas are the perfect summer cocktail to pair with Mexican food or to lay back and drink on a lazy Sunday afternoon. This version of a traditional Margarita recipe consists of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice served with salt on the rim of the glass. Margaritas are often prepared a bit different when ordered out. Some bartenders don't even add lime juice, but instead, add sour mix with a splash of lime or orange. Those who prepare their own Margaritas sometimes opt for a sweetened concentrated lime juice (like Rose's) instead of freshly squeezed lime juice. I'm here to tell you that the juice from a freshly squeezed lime makes all the difference. Follow this cocktail recipe to make your best Margarita.

Provided by Renee Korczak

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 ounces tequila
2 ounces Triple Sec
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Coarse salt ((for the rim of the Margarita glass))
Ice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Make the simple syrup by combining the sugar and water together in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Set the mixture aside until it cools.
  • Cut limes into quarters and use a lime press (or any other kitchen gadget) to squeeze the juice out of the limes. Place the juice aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice and simple syrup. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled (about 30 seconds).
  • Coat the rim of a Margarita glass with some lime juice and then fill a plate with some coarse salt. Flip the Margarita glass upside down and move in a circular motion, so the rim is coated with salt. Fill the Margarita glass with your cocktail and use a lime for garnish. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

CLASSIC MEXICAN MARGARITA

Classic Mexican Margarita image

This classic Mexican margarita is the perfect blend of fresh lime juice, blanco tequila, simple syrup and triple sec, all served over ice in a chilled, salted cocktail glass.

Provided by Andres Carnalla

Categories     Beverage

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 lime (cut into wedges )
1 tbsp sea salt or Kosher salt (coarse)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 cup fresh ice
2 ozs. blanco tequila (also called white or silver tequila) (100% agave)
1 1/2 limes (cut in halves)
1 1/2 ozs. orange liqueur (triple sec)
2 tbsp simple syrup (See recipe below.)
Lime wedges or slices for garnish

Steps:

  • On a dish or cutting board, pour and flatten a pile of coarse salt like sea salt or Kosher salt. Don't use table salt, as it will clump up and make your drink very salty.
  • Cut a lime in half. Reserve one half for the margarita and cut the remaining half into two wedges. Run a lime wedge along the entire rim of the glass. Be sure it's wet enough so the salt can stick.
  • Invert your glass and press into the salt so it sticks to the rim.
  • Place the salted glass upright into the refrigerator to chill as you mix up your margarita.
  • Pour the sugar into a deep sauce pan.
  • Pour the water over the sugar.
  • Place sugar mixture on the stove and set the heat to medium-high.
  • Use a wooden spoon to stir the mixture constantly so the sugar dissolves faster.
  • Once the sugar completely dissolves, remove from the heat.
  • Pour the syrup into a container. You should end up with about one cup of natural syrup. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the syrup for the margarita. Cover and store the rest for another use. The syrup will keep for up to three days.
  • Add ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. If you have big pieces, you can bang them on a hard surface to break them up a bit, but you do want to keep the pieces on the larger side. Ice that's too small will quickly melt and water down your drink.
  • Squeeze the juice from 1 1/2 limes into a small cup or bowl and remove any seeds. Pour the fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  • Next add the sweetener, tequila and triple sec.
  • Place the top back on your shaker and shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to combine.
  • Remove the chilled cocktail glass from the refrigerator.
  • Carefully pour the contents of the shaker into the glass, including the ice.
  • Garnish with a slice of lime.
