400 BUILD - FIRST BUILD ADVICE NEEDED - FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS FORUMS
Mar 20, 2022 I've been stewing for a while and have almost given up to the point of just building the MotorTrend 400 here. So my question, is there anything wrong/could be better about this build now that we're almost 25 years removed? Here are the specs: From ford-trucks.com
SCOTT’S HOTRODS ’N CUSTOMS BUILDS TROY PECK’S 1969 FORD F-100
3 days ago It blew everyone away. It made the Top 30, as it should. However, it didn’t get anything more than that. A couple weekends later it took home Best of Show at the F-100 Super Nationals. Its next stop will be Dino’s Git-Down in Arizona—a CHEVY ONLY Show. Yes, that’s right, a Ford at a Chevy-only show. From inthegaragemedia.com
500 HP 400 ON A UNIQUE MIX OF PARTS... - FORD TRUCK FANATICS
Sep 6, 2014 This engine is externally balanced, so the easiest way to bring everything a little closer to the correct balance is to use a 164-tooth flexplate and balancer for a late-model 5.0/302 Ford instead of the stock 400 damper and flywheel. From fordtruckfanatics.com

Oct 29, 2004 I was wondering if anyone has tried to build a 400 with a good set of cleveland heads, and better yet bored and stroked. Is it worth trying??? From corral.net
Feb 4, 2025 Many people go for a “choppy” cam, but they’re not always the best fit. You’ll want strong low-end torque and a responsive mid-range for smooth power through the gears. Here are two better options: From ford-trucks.com

400 ENGINE BUILD | BRONCO FORUM - FULL SIZE FORD BRONCO FORUM
Jan 28, 2020 There’s good info on Bubbas M-block page and the 335 engine series on ford-trucks.com. I think the 400 is a 4” bore x 4” stroke engine. Math gets you pretty darn close to a 400 ci displacement. From fullsizebronco.com
Feb 21, 2014 1 - Get a quote for a full head rebuild, to include performance valves, matched springs, Viton seals, etc. FYI, some great budget parts can be bought at Alex's Parts. 2 - After you tally that up, compare to the Edelbrocks, buy the one you think is a better deal. Make sure you look at any additional parts you may need. From fordmuscleforums.com
Nov 14, 2024 I like your build, the cam should be great for low/midrange power! What intake are you planning on using? Should be well over 450 HP. From yellowbullet.com
SO IF YOU HAD TO BUILD UP A 351/400M... - FORD MUSCLE CARS TECH FORUM
Jul 27, 2009 Anyone have a link to a pretty decent street 400 buildup? Any best bang-for-the buck tips for power or gas mileage? The engine will have to be rebuilt of course, I'm just wondering what to do with it when it is. From fordmuscleforums.com
ADVICE ON BUILDING UP A FORD 400 : R/ENGINEBUILDING - REDDIT
Aug 16, 2019 I am looking to build up the 400 in my '79 lincoln continental. I plan on using TMeyer pistons (yielding around 9.3:1 CR), a lunati cam, and an efi kit from the "460efiguys", as well as a higher stall torque converter (2500-ish rpm stall). I had a few questions regarding the two cams I had in mind, as well as the heads. From reddit.com

Sep 2, 2017 First off, my 400 is in a car, not a truck. It's a 1972 400, in a 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport fastback. The car has been in the family since day one, and will never leave the family. So I want to build this one right. Currently the engine is pretty stock, an Edelbrock Intake, Holley 670 SA carb, and some minor ignition tweaks. From ford-trucks.com
Nov 23, 2024 You can build a hot street motor, and not sacrifice much power compared to a full race motor. Especially if your goal is only 450 to 500 horsepower. There are plenty of recipes for a pump gas motor that will make really good power on the street. From hotrodders.com
Oct 6, 2024 Your best bet to fit up an old set of transmission lines is to build your own. I personally build them using AN line and fittings. For the transmission use steel braided line (meaning steel on the outside). From ford-trucks.com
Oct 29, 2009 Found this build article for a 400. All in all it seems pretty solid, but I can't believe the level of quality they had in some areas and the garbage they had in others...namely the ProComp heads. I also couldn't believe they had better success with the converted Air Gap intake than the CHI. Anywho, here's the article: From fordtruckfanatics.com
FIRST TIME ENGINE BUILDER (FORD 400) - FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS …
Dec 1, 2024 First time engine builder (Ford 400) Just picked up a tired Ford 400 engine to replace my tired engine over the winter. I am still very much in the planning phase of such project, and this will be my very first engine I tear down to the block and rebuild. From ford-trucks.com
WHAT IS IDEAL ENGINE BUILD RECIPE FOR 400? - FORD-TRUCKS.COM
Mar 29, 2004 In all, from what I have read, this should make the motor twist around 350HP and 400@4500 torque. That is a rough estimate. My 351m is in good shape right now, but when I go to get another short block, I will likely get a 400 because it has the longer stroke. From ford-trucks.com
