Thoughts on "farmhouse" Style. The so-called "farmhouse style" is reflected by just using what's available to make a modest, functional piece of furniture.
Materials and Tools. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to useful materials for making things, and this hutch is a hodge-podge of old and previously-used materials.
The Counter Top. The four thick oak boards used to make the counter top were milled flat as outlined in the instructable linked in the previous step.
Finish Counter Top. The edges of the counter top were routed with an 1/8" round bit, and a stained with Jacobean color stain. After the stain was dry, the counter was coated with several coats of spray lacquer.
Build Lower Cabinet. The lower cabinet was made using oak plywood trimmed with pieces of solid oak. The old plywood I used had to first have the original thick lacquer finish sanded off, which took hours and hours for all of the pieces, and made a huge mess in my shop!
Hanging Drawers. I decided it would nice to have a pair of hanging drawers inside the cabinet. These were made with solid maple with old 1/4" pine plywood for the bottoms.
Drawer Rails. The drawers ride on hardwood rails that are fastened to the top of the inside cabinet. These rails were glued and nailed in place, and then screws were added from the topside for additional strength.
Doors. The cabinet doors were made from pieces of old pine. These were cut to size as needed using the table saw, and glued up into frames with biscuits made with a biscuit jointer.
Upper Shelf Panels. All of the panels for the upper shelves were made of smaller pieces of old oak plywood that had to first be edge-glued together.
Build Upper Shelves. I'm including a lot of photos in this step, with notes in many of them to show how this part was made. A similar approach could be used to build bookcases of all sizes.

Field of Dreams Farmhouse. I’m starting with this one because it’s my favorite. Authentic, modest, and looks like it could be built inexpensively as it’s relatively small.
Emmaline Gabrielle Farmhouse. This one is a little larger and fancier, but it is still simple, and absolutely beautiful. A full two story, it has more of a New-England exterior.
Glenview Cottage. This house by Moser Design Center combines classic American style on the outside with a super practical floorpan inside. There is an open kitchen and family room, with a tucked away dining room and then an office area that can be completely closed off.
Four Gables. This is a very popular house plan right now, and we almost built it ourselves. It’s a great combination of a very old fashioned farmhouse exterior and much more modern floor plan.
Sugarberry Cottage. This is the smallest of the farmhouse house plans on this list, but it’s one that I really love. It has a country style feel, but would definitely be suitable for a more urban or narrow lot.
Sand Mountain House. This country home designed by John Tee has a very traditional exterior, so much so that it is on the edge of really being considered a farmhouse.
A Honey of a Farmhouse. If you love natural light, you need to check out this plan. There are windows everywhere and lots of corners to allow light into the house from different angles.

The Rustic Farmhouse Table. This table is absolutely gorgeous. I love how they took mismatched chairs and placed them around it. It certainly gives this table even more character.
The Easy Farmhouse Table. The design of this farmhouse table is one that even those with very little carpentry skills could master. And it holds quite a few people as well.
The Wide Farmhouse Table. This farmhouse table is extra wide. To be honest, I think it would be an amazing table to have to serve Thanksgiving dinner on.
The Gigantic Farmhouse Table. Farmhouse tables are supposed to be big. But this one absolutely takes the cake. From what I see, you could easily fit 10 people around this one table.
The Cherished Table. This table is so unique because of the different accents they added to it. But yet simple enough that it could be easily built. So if you need a table that will be easy for you to build regardless of carpentry level.
