EMPTY TOMB CRESCENT ROLLS

Empty Tomb Crescent Rolls image

What a treat on Easter morning! Fresh, warm crescent rolls for breakfast. But, that is only half the treat... learning or re-enforcing the true meaning of Easter for Christians everywhere. This is delightful and fun for the little ones to help with. You will find easy to follow explanations and Bible readings to go along with the preparation and serving of this tasty treat.

Categories     Breads

Time 24m

Yield 4 rolls, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (8 count) can refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
4 regular marshmallows
3 tablespoons butter, melted in shallow baking dish
1 cup cinnamon sugar, in small bowl

Steps:

  • Roll out the crescent rolls and separate.
  • Place two crescent rolls next to each other with the wide ends of the triangles overlapping to form a right angle.
  • Show the marshmallows and explain that the color white represents purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read: Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3.
  • Dip marshmallows individually in the butter, then roll in the cinnamon and sugar mixture, coating evenly. Place one butter and cinnamon sugar coated marshmallow in each set of crescent rolls. Pull up the narrow ends of the triangles and wrap the crescent roll dough completely around the marshmallow, sealing well. It is very important that no gaps are present.
  • Explain that each marshmallow represents Jesus' body which was wrapped (covered in sugar mixture) and placed in the tomb which was then sealed tight (closed up in the dough.) Read: Matthew 27:57-60.
  • Use remaining butter to brush the tops of the "tombs" and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar to taste.
  • Bake on cookie sheet at 375°F for 14 minutes, or until the tops are a deep golden brown. Cool 1 minute in the pan. Serve and enjoy!
  • When the "tombs" are ready to be served have each person break theirs open and experience the emptiness of the tomb. Explain that Jesus was raised from the dead and His followers were amazed to find the tomb empty. Read: Matthew 28:1-9.

EMPTY TOMB ROLLS FOR EASTER - STEPH

Empty Tomb Rolls for Easter - Steph image

This recipe was sent to me by a former co-worker. This would be an excellent representation of Jesus' resurrection to be used in a Sunday School class.

Categories     Sweet Breads

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 can(s) crescent rolls (8 in each can)
1/2 c butter, melted
16 large marshmallows
1/2 c sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. 350 degree oven. Prepare the ingredients in a little assembly line. Organize in this order: crescent roll dough (separated into triangles), marshmallows, melted butter, and cinnamon and sugar (mixed).
  • 2. If using this in a Sunday School class, gather the children. Start each child with a marshmallow and a crescent roll triangle. Tell them that the marshmallow represents Jesus, holy and pure. The roll represents the linen wrapping that was placed about the body before burial.
  • 3. Set the marshmallow in the center of the crescent roll and wrap it inside, pinching to seal tightly. The tighter it is sealed, the better it turns out. If not sealed tightly, the marshmallow goo escapes all over the place and is messy. Drop wrapped marshmallow into melted butter and cover thoroughly. This is representative of the embalming oils.
  • 4. Next, roll the buttered roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. This represents the spices used to annoint the body. Place the rolls in a muffin pan to bake . Bake for 12 minutes. The oven represents the tomb in which Jesus' body was placed. Pretend the baking period is three days in length.
  • 5. Remove the rolls and cool slightly. When the children open the rolls (burial cloth), they will discover that the body is gone! Christ is risen!

EMPTY TOMB ROLLS

From Clubhouse Jr. 1995. These are my family's favorite Easter morning breakfast! Let your kids make them with you. They will enjoy wrapping the marshmallow in dough and finding the "tomb" empty after they bake!

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 1h15m

Yield 24 rolls, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

24 frozen yeast rolls, thawed (such as Rhode's Bake and Serve, it needs to be the raw dough, not the pre-baked kind)
24 large marshmallows
1/4 cup butter, melted
6 tablespoons sugar
1 -1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Press the rolls flat.
  • Place a marshmallow in the center of each roll and pinch the dough around it.
  • Press the marshmallow-filled rolls into round-ish balls.
  • Brush each roll with butter and sprinkle it with the combined cinnamon and sugar.
  • Let the rolls rise for 30-45 minutes.
  • Bake them at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Just like the tomb on Easter Sunday, these rolls are empty!
  • More notes: You can easily make as many or as few as you like! I usually just make 12, which is the perfect amount for a 9x13 pan. I also usually do all the assembly the night before so that on baking day I can just pull them out of the fridge and let them rise on the counter and bake. These are a perfect sweet breakfast for Easter morning!
  • (I have listed this as making 12 servings, even though it makes 24 rolls, because we can never eat just one -- and prep. time includes rising.).
