THE BEST EASY STEAK MARINADE

The Best Easy Steak Marinade image

It's easy to make THE BEST sirloin steak marinade with just a few simple ingredients. Quickly whisk the marinade ingredients together, marinate the steak, then toss it on the grill for the best flavor!

Provided by Whitney Bond

Categories     Main Course

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 8

⅓ cup balsamic vinegar
⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (click link for homemade recipe)
1 teaspoon dried mustard
2 pounds top sirloin steaks

Steps:

  • Combine the balsamic vinegar, low-sodium soy sauce, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, honey, Italian seasoning and dried mustard in a gallon size zipper bag or large bowl.
  • Add the steaks and marinade for 20 minutes, or up to 8 hours.
  • Heat a grill over medium high heat, between 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit. Wait until the grill is hot before adding the steaks, to give them perfect sear marks.
  • Remove the steaks from the marinade and discard the marinade. Add the steaks to a hot grill.
  • For a perfect medium rare steak, grill a 1 inch thick steak for 4-5 minutes per side. For a steak that is 1 1/2 inches thick, add 1-2 minutes to the cooking time per side.
  • Insert an instant read thermometer into the steak. Remove the steak once it reads 130°F for a medium rare steak. For a medium steak, wait until it reaches 140°F and for a medium well steak, wait until it reaches 150°F.
  • Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This ensures that the juices redistribute throughout the steak, leaving you with the most juicy steak possible!
  • Sprinkle coarse kosher salt or sea salt flakes over the steak and optionally garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

MARINADE FOR STEAK

Marinade for Steak image

Ingredients in a marinade can be varied, but it is important to use wine, vinegar, lemon juice, or some acidic liquid to break down the connective tissues. This process will make the steak more tender. Remaining marinade ingredients add flavor. Use a good-quality olive oil or walnut oil; add good-quality wine or vinegar and a combination of fresh and dried herbs, seasonings, garlic and soy sauce to make a flavorful marinade.

DIY ESSENTIALS: EASY STEAK SAUCE AND/OR MARINADE

DIY Essentials: Easy Steak Sauce and/or Marinade image

I love a good steak sauce; it should complement the steak without overpowering it. I almost always serve it on the side, and either lightly brush it on, or cut a bite-size piece and dip it in... It is all about sauce control. One of the secrets to this tangy steak sauce is the addition of some fruit puree, but more on that later. So, you ready... Let's get into the kitchen.

Number Of Ingredients 15

PLAN/PURCHASE
THE STEAK SAUCE
1/4 cup(s) ketchup
2 tablespoon(s) worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoon(s) cranberry puree
2 teaspoon(s) yellow mustard
1 teaspoon(s) lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/4 teaspoon(s) coconut sugar, dark variety
1 - 2 dash(es) hot sauce, i prefer frank's
CONVERTING TO A MARINADE
2 tablespoon(s) finished steak sauce
2 tablespoon(s) grapeseed oil, or other non-flavored variety
1 clove(s) garlic, minced
1 teaspoon(s) lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 teaspoon(s) white pepper, freshly ground

Steps:

  • PREP/PREPARE
  • Storage Of Homemade Condiments, Spices, and Sauces Because homemade spices and condiments do not contain any preservatives, it is important to store them properly. Non-reactive (glass) containers with tight-fitting lids are a must. If I am making a dry spice, I love to use old spice bottles that I have run through the dishwasher. If I am doing homemade sauces, I love using Weck jars. They are all glass, come in all sizes and shapes, and have excellent leakproof lids. If you shop online, you can go to Amazon, and type in "Weck Jars" and you will find a ton of them. Dry spices should be kept in a cool space, away from sunlight (spice cabinet), and sauces, in most cases, should be stored in the fridge. If properly stored, this sauce should last 4 - 6 weeks.
  • Homemade Ketchup Okay, this may seem like a lot of time to spend on making ketchup; however, the time spent is well worth the flavor you get on the other side. Plus, since you're making it from scratch, you can vary the ingredients to suit the occasion. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/sauce-spread/other-sauce-spread/versatile-homemade-ketchup.html?r=3
  • Homemade Worcestershire Looking for a good Worcestershire without anchovies, or all those chemical preservatives? It is easy/peasy to make and tastes like the real thing. So yummy. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/sauce-spread/other-sauce-spread/diy-essentials-homemade-worcestershire-sauce.html?r=1
  • Fruit Puree The thing that gives this sauce its zing is a bit of cranberry puree. It really does make a difference. Here is the recipe: https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/sauce-spread/fruit-sauce/sweet-savory-essentials-fruit-puree.html
  • Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • Add all of the ingredients together in a small saucepan.
  • Lightly simmer, about 95f/35c.
  • After 5 minutes, remove from the heat, allow to completely cool, and store, as recommended above, in the refrigerator, or freezer
  • CONVERTING INTO A MARINADE
  • Add all of the ingredients together, then add the steak in something like a Ziploc bag, and marinate for a minimum of 2 hours, and a maximum of 8 hours.
  • PLATE/PRESENT
  • Serve with just about any good steak. Enjoy.
  • Keep the faith and keep cooking.

EASY STEAK MARINADE

Easy Steak Marinade image

There is a small steakhouse in Murfreesboro, TN that has the most amazing steak marinade that I have not found ANYWHERE else! One day I asked my waiter if he would share some of the ingredients with me. After getting home I immediately began experimenting to see if I could re-create the flavor of THAT marinade while the taste was still fresh in my mind. This is what I came up with. I brush the marinade all over the steaks and place them in a vacuum-seal bag in the refrigerator a couple hours before I want to begin cooking. Delicious!
