2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 450°F.
  • Stir all ingredients until soft dough forms; beat vigorously 30 seconds. Turn onto surface dusted with Bisquick mix. Roll in Bisquick mix to coat. Shape into ball; knead 10 times. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut with 2-inch cutter dipped in Bisquick mix. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake about 8 minutes or until golden brown.

If you like crunchy biscuits these are well worth a try. Always popular with my friends at the windmills. They are very easy to make but please ensure you space the mixture on the baking trays as advised below - they spread out significantly during cooking.

85 g stone ground whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
85 g caster sugar
85 g rolled oats
85 g butter
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon golden syrup

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to Cool (300°F, 150°C, gas mark 2).
  • Cover 2 baking trays with silicon or parchment paper.
  • Stir together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, oats and sugar.
  • Over gentle heat, melt together the butter, syrup and milk.
  • Pour the fluid into the flour mixture and mix well.
  • Take rounded teaspoons of the resultant mix and roll in the hands to form a small ball.
  • Place the balls of mixture 4 inches apart on the baking trays and slightly flatten the balls.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Cool on the trays for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the biscuits to become firm.
  • Lift the biscuits off the lining paper with a fish-slice and place on wire trays to finish cooling.
  • Once cool, place in an air-tight tin to keep the biscuits crunchy.

½ cup hot water
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups quick cooking oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup chopped walnuts
2 eggs
¾ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Soak raisins in hot water and set aside.
  • In large bowl, sift flour with soda, salt and spices. Blend in rolled oats, sugar and nuts. In a separate bowl, beat eggs with fork and add oil, vanilla, and raisins and water mixture. Pour into dry ingredients, stirring until well mixed. Drop by teaspoonfuls about two inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 10 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are golden.

  • Mix together the first four ingredients. Cut in the shortening. Stir in oats. Stir in milk just until combined.
  • Pat out, cut and bake for 12-15 minutes, at 450°F

75g wholemeal flour
1 tsp baking powder
75g porridge oats
50g caster sugar
75g butter
1 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp milk

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.
  • Sift the flour into a bowl. Mix in the baking powder, porridge oats and sugar.
  • Melt the butter, syrup and milk in a small saucepan or in the microwave and stir.
  • Add to the dry ingredients. Mix until the liquid covers all the oat mixture and until well combined.
  • Spoon onto a baking tray and shape into rounds, leaving space between each biscuit as they will spread whilst cooking.
  • Bake for 10-15 mins, or until golden brown. Leave to cool for 5 mins before removing from tray.

75 grams rolled oats
75 grams self-raising flour
75 grams sugar
75 grams margarine
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon golden syrup

Steps:

  • Grease the baking trays and set the oven to Gas 5 Pour the flour into a bowl Add the sugar and oats and stir with a wooden spoon until it's all mixed well Pour the milk and margarine into a frying pan, and add the butter Mix with a wooden spoon until it is a fairly soft mixture. Turn on the heat and melt the mixture into a liquid, until there are no bumps or lumps in the mixture Once it is 100% liquid without any lumps, pour most of it in the mixing bowl and over the dry ingredients. Note: If you pour all of it, then it will become too sticky Mix thoroughly Take small pieces and roll into golf-sized balls with your hands Place the balls on the greased baking tray and flatten them slightly Bake for about 20 minutes, until the crunchies look golden brown Allow to cool for a few minutes on a cooling tray

Place 1 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.
