- Soak the Lint. The first step is to soak the lint in warm water for at least 30 minutes. This helps the lint to break down so that it’s easier to blend during the next step.
- Create the Mold. If you decide to use screening and frames, view the Instructables tutorial. I went for cheap and easy – I went to my local Dollar Tree and purchased a splatter screen (similar to the one pictured) and a wooden 4×6 picture frame with the glass and backing removed.
- Blending the Lint. The next step is to liquefy the lint in a blender. Scoop about one cup of lint and put it in the blender, then add water to fill the rest of the blender until it is close to the top.
- Filling the Mold. If you used a deckle and mold, follow the Instructable tutorial for this step. If you used a splatter guard and a frame or cookie cutter, balance the splatter guard on the edge of your tub (to catch the runoff water).
- Sifting. If you used a deckle and mold, follow the Instructable tutorial for this step. If you used a splatter guard and a frame or cookie cutter, sift the mold and mush the slurry around a little to get it in all the corners, and even things out a bit.

- Create Some Fire Starters. One of the reasons we clean out highly flammable dryer lint is to prevent fires. So, why not use it to start a fire when and where you want one?
- Make Pet Bedding. If you have guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils or rats, lint makes some great bedding. It is clean, soft, and easy to replenish after it becomes soiled.
- Stuff Small Crafts. If you just need a bit of filling for a craft project, ornament or toy, use lint. Again, it is clean and free! Dryer lint is not a good choice for any project that will later be washed.
- Prevent Soil Erosion and Weed Growth. A thick layer of lint is not a great mulch for plants that you want to thrive, but it can prevent weed growth and erosion in areas that need extra help.
- Spin Into Thread. If you are a fiber artist, lint can be spun into new thread or yarn to use in knitting or crochet projects. And, if you don't like the color of the thread, use natural dyes to create a range of beautiful colors.
