OVER WINTERING CHILLIE PLANTS - THE CHILLI KING
From thechilliking.com
- Not all your plants will make it though the winter. Assuming you are like most people available space (away from frosts) such as in the greenhouse or conservatory or a sunny windowsill will be limited so only choose your best looking, healthiest chilli plants to overwinter.
- As summer is coming to an end give each plant a careful check over looking out for any signs of disease or pests. If you find either separate out the good plants from the bad to avoid any further infestations.
- Be sure to remove any chillies from your plants as you do not want to waste any! If the plants have unripe fruit then you can try and ripen them off the plant.
- Pruning. Prune back each plant so you only leave about 10-15cm of the main stem. This can seem severe however it is needed to increase the plants survival chances.
- Repotting. After trimming back your chilli plants it can be a good idea to remove them from the pot, shake off the root ball slightly and repot using some fresh compost.

CHILLI PLANT CARE: 7 HUGE MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN …
From growingchillies.net
- Using Compost With The Wrong Amount Of Nutrients. Good chilli plant care involves growing your chillies in a good-quality compost once you pot them up, as shown in this video.
- Reacting Rather Than Preventing. There is a lot of chilli plant care advice that works on the idea of reacting, rather than preventing common issues. This is a mistake, as often prevention is better than cure.
- Assuming The Plants Will Be Pollinated. If you grow your plants outdoors, the pollination aspect of your chilli plant care is usually minimal. Hopefully pollinating insects will do their job and ensure you get plenty of chillies growing.
- Over Fertilising. With chilli plant care, over fertilising is a common issue. Gardeners can get a bit overzealous with the fertiliser, which then damages the plant.
- Shallow Watering. Gardeners can water a little everyday, leaving the soil moist and the plant never getting a proper drenching, which can lead to plant disease, stress and stunted growth.
