Slow Cooker Chop Suey image

A combination of beef and pork is slow cooked with onion, celery, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. Serve over rice or your favorite Asian-style noodles.

Time 6h25m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 pound pork stew meat, cubed
1/2 pound beef stew meat, cubed
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup celery, sliced in 1/4-inch diagonal slices
1 can (8 ounce size) sliced water chestnuts, undrained
2 cans (16 ounce size) bean sprouts, drained
1 can (8 ounce size) bamboo shoots, drained
1 can (8 ounce size) mushrooms, undrained
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons cornstarch
4 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • Heat a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the pork and beef and cook, stirring, until they begin to brown. Add the onion and celery and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes. Place the meat mixture in the crock pot. Top with the water chestnuts, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. Drizzle the soy sauce and chicken broth over the top. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. When the meat is tender turn the heat to high. Combine the cornstarch with the water until it forms a slurry. CHICKEN CHOP SUEY

Chicken Chop Suey image

Chop suey has always been my favorite dish at Chinese restaurants, and after several tries I've managed to come up with this dish that tastes very similar to the chop suey at my favorite Chinese restaurant. There is a lot of chopping, but it's well worth the effort. The prep time depends on how quickly you can chop. We like it with vegetable fried rice or honey-garlic spare ribs.

VEGETARIAN AMERICAN CHOP SUEY (CROCK-POT)

Vegetarian American Chop Suey (Crock-Pot) image

This reminded me of American Chop Suey (an old '60s comfort food recipe which I used to make in a skillet on the stove) but healthier and made in a crockpot. I thought a chopped green pepper or sliced mushrooms may be great additions to this recipe. Adapted from Fresh From the Vegetarian Slow Cooker

Provided by ellie_

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 4h15m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes, crushed
1 (12 ounce) package frozen vegetarian veggie crumbles
1 -2 cup hot water
1/2 cup red wine
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
salt
pepper
8 ounces pasta (I used bow ties, but any macaroni-type of pasta will work)
1 tablespoon basil, chopped
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Steps:

  • In a skillet over medium heat heat oil and then add onion, cooking until softened. Stir in garlic and cook another minute or so. Although I didn't use them I thought a green pepper and/or mushrooms would be great to add to the skillet.
  • Transfer onion mixture to the crockpot.
  • Stir in next 7 ingredients (tomatoes - pepper) and cook on low for 3 1/2 hours.
  • Stir in pasta, cover and cook on low for another 30 minutes.
  • Stir in basil and sprinkle with cheese.
