1 lb green peanuts in the shell
1/4 cup kosher salt
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 jalapeño, sliced
6 cups water

Steps:

  • Sort through peanuts and remove any debris by rinsing with cold water.
  • Place peanuts to slow cooker. Add kosher salt, Cajun seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes and jalapeño. Add about 6 cups of water or enough to cover the peanuts as they float. Cover and cook on low for 22-24 hours.
  • Drain and serve warm or cold.

1 lb raw peanuts in the shell (not roasted)
1/4 cup coarse sea salt
2 Tbsp Cajun seasoning (I used Tony Chachere's-see recipe notes below)
1-2 Tbsp hot sauce (or more to adjust to taste; see recipe notes below)
About 6-8 cups of water

Steps:

  • Rinse and sort peanuts, discarding any debris or severely cracked shells. Transfer peanuts into the slow cooker.
  • Add salt, Cajun seasoning, and hot sauce.
  • Pour water over the peanuts. Set the lid in place.
  • Cook on the high setting for about 5-7 hours, stirring occasionally, until peanuts are tender. If needed, add more water during cooking.

1 pound raw peanuts (in the shell)
3 oz dry crab boil ((such as Zatarain's® Crab and Shrimp Boil))
1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
8 cups water to start

Steps:

  • Add peanuts to Crock-Pot, add in water
  • Pour garlic powder, salt, Cajun seasoning and red pepper flakes over the top. Stir everything together.
  • Place dry crab boil on top
  • Cook in the Crock Pot for 12-24 hours. The longer they cook the stronger the flavor.
  • Add water as needed to make sure the peanuts are covered.

A wonderful southern tradition--and obviously and acquired taste! Don't want it so hot?- replace pepper and Cajun seasonings and jalapeños with some ham hocks and have them country style.

2 lbs raw peanuts, in the shell (green)
4 tablespoons cajun seasoning (I get the blackening seasoning from Sam's wholesale)
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
4 tablespoons salt (heaping)
5 fresh jalapenos, seeded and sliced thick

Steps:

  • In large steel stock pot (for outside use) place peanuts and fill with water 3/4 full.
  • Add all but the jalapeños.
  • Place on gas burner and heat until boiling.
  • Boil at a steady boil for about 6 hours, adding water as needed to keep pot at least half full.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • During last 2 hours add jalapeños.
  • Taste at the end of the 6 hours for doneness. They should be completely soft and the inside of the shells are completely "wet" looking--no white remains visible.
  • Eat hot or cold!
  • They are great!
  • Freeze some for later--just heat in microwave to enjoy that fresh out of pot taste again!

1 lb raw or green peanuts
water
2 Tbsp cajun seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 c salt (start with 1/4 c. and add more to your taste)

Steps:

  • 1. Put the peanuts in the crock pot and cover with water, enough water so that when you push them down about 2" of water is still above them. Add in the Cajun seasoning, garlic powder and salt. Stir, cover and cook on high for 3 hours, reduce to low and cook for an additional 9-10 hours or until the texture you like them. If you want to freeze them, let them cool then put in a freezer bag. To reheat, place the amount you want to eat, cover with water and boil for 5 minutes.
