At Legoland, some of the most popular fries are made from fruit: They're Granny Smith apple slices that are fried and dusted with cinnamon sugar. The fries taste like apple pie, so dipping them in whipped cream is highly recommended!

Vegetable oil, for frying
4 Granny Smith apples, peeled
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Heat 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil in a large wide pot over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 300 degrees F. Cut the apples into 1/2-inch-wide sticks to look like fries.
  • Working in two batches, toss the apples in the cornstarch until well coated, shaking off the excess. Fry in the hot oil until softened but still pale, about 2 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a rack set over a rimmed baking sheet in a single layer; let cool. Let the oil return to 300 degrees F between batches.
  • Mix 1/2 cup sugar and the cinnamon in a shallow bowl; set aside. Beat the heavy cream, vanilla and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar in a medium bowl with a mixer until medium peaks form.
  • Increase the oil temperature to 375 degrees F. Working in about three batches, re-fry the apples until crisp and lightly browned, about 1 1/2 minutes. Remove to paper towels to drain briefly, then toss in the cinnamon sugar until well coated. Serve warm with the whipped cream for dipping.

Steps:

Mix sugar and cinnamon together Chop or cut up fried apples into tiny squares. I used a chopper to get apples small. If using pie filling try to use more apples and less of the sauce Cut tortilla into four squares, each tortilla will make four Cinnamon Sugar Fried Apple Sticks Microwave 2 to 4 squares (the microwave softens the tortilla making it easier to roll and helps the butter melt) Butter one square and flip it over Place a small line of apples on the tortilla square. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon & sugar mixture over the apples and your square (more if you like a heavier cinnamon flavor) Roll up apple in tortilla. Roll tortilla in cinnamon & sugar mixture (the butter should cause the mixture to stick) Place sticks and chips on a greased cooking sheet. Broil until just starting to crisp. 3-5 minutes

3/4 cup cinnamon candies, such as Red Hots
1/2 cup light brown sugar
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and each cut into eighths
1 stick (8 tablespoons) salted butter
One 16-ounce store-bought pound cake, cut into 8 slices
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Mint leaves, for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine the candies, brown sugar and 2 1/2 cups water in a large saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring, until the candies and sugar have fully melted, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the apples and bring to a boil. Cook until the apples are tender but not mushy, about 5 minutes. Remove the apples with a slotted spoon and transfer to a heatproof dish. Allow the syrup to boil for an additional 5 minutes to thicken and intensify. Pour the syrup over the apples and allow to cool. Transfer to the fridge and chill for at least 4 hours.
  • When ready to serve, warm a griddle over medium heat. Butter the griddle and toast the slices of pound cake for about 2 minutes per side, adding more butter as needed.
  • To plate, place a piece of pound cake on each plate. Top with a scoop of ice cream and 4 apple slices. Drizzle with additional syrup and garnish with the mint.

1 c sugar or splenda sugar
cinnamon (to taste)
4 Tbsp butter or light margarine
1/2 can(s) can of fried apple or apple pie filling

Steps:

  • 1. Pour the sugar onto a plate and sprinkle on the cinnamon. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together. Chop or cut fried apple in to squares.
  • 2. Cut tortilla into four squares (each tortilla makes four Cinnamon Sugar Fried Apple Sticks). Microwave the squares for 15 seconds.
  • 3. Butter one square and flip it over(place on a plate or cutting board).Place a small line of apples on each tortilla square, then sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon and sugar mixture over the apples.
  • 4. Roll up the apple, then roll the tortilla in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Repeat until you have used all ingredients.
