Adapt this recipe for easy overnight oats to suit your tastes. You can add dried fruit, seeds and nuts, grated apple or pear, or chopped tropical fruits - the perfect healthy breakfast.

¼ tsp ground cinnamon
50g rolled porridge oats
2 tbsp natural yogurt
50g mixed berries
drizzle of honey
½ tbsp nut butter (we used almond)

Steps:

  • The night before serving, stir the cinnamon and 100ml water (or milk) into your oats with a pinch of salt.
  • The next day, loosen with a little more water (or milk) if needed. Top with the yogurt, berries, a drizzle of honey and the nut butter.

2 cups old fashioned oats (NOT quick-cooking)
4 cups water
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Mix together the apples, cinnamon and brown sugar in bottom of crock pot.
  • Sprinkle oats over apples, then pour in water and salt; DO NOT STIR!
  • Cook on LOW for 8-9 hours.

3 1/4 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half
1/2 cup diced dried fruits and raisins (from 7-oz bag)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup chopped walnuts, if desired

Steps:

  • Spray 3- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Place oats, brown sugar and salt in slow cooker. Cover with water and half-and-half. Stir to mix slightly.
  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 7 to 8 hours.
  • Stir in dried fruits and cinnamon. Top with walnuts.

2/3 cup milk, of choice (cow's, almond, soy, rice...)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
1 apple, grated
1/2 cup pecans

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix the oats, milk, cinnamon, maple syrup, maple extract and grated apple.
  • Divide between two bowls or mason jars and store in the fridge overnight.
  • In the morning top with the pecans and serve.

2 cups rolled oats, not quick cook
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons artificial sweetener, such as Truvia
1/3 cup raisins
1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt (greek yoghurt would work too)
1 cup milk, I used skim (almond, soy, rice etc would all work too)

Steps:

  • Place the oats, cinnamon, sweetener and raisins into a large bowl and stir until combined.
  • Add in yoghurt and milk and mix until well combined.
  • Either decant into a jar/container, or cover the bowl with clingfilm before placing in the fridge for at least 3 hours, overnight if possible.
  • Serve with extra raisins or nuts/seeds, if desired.
  • Overnight oats will keep in an airtight container, in the fridge, for 2 days.
