2 tablespoons shortening (or 1/8 block paraffin wax)
24 pretzels (3 inch)

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and shortening or wax over a double boiler or in the microwave.
  • Stir until smooth and combined.
  • Remove from heat, leaving mixture over hot water if using a double boiler.
  • If using microwave you may need to reheat if mixture gets too thick for dipping.
  • Dip each pretzel in chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
  • Place on wax paper lined cookie sheets and chill until firm.

Steps:

  • Put chocolate in small bowl.
  • Microwave for 35 seconds.
  • The chips will still look whole, DO NOT MICROWAVE ANY LONGER! IT WILL BURN, instead stir for 20 seconds and all lumps will be smooth.
  • Lay out a piece of foil.
  • Dip pretzels with fingers in chocolate scrape off excess and lay on foil.
  • Wait 30 minutes to cool (Better if not put in fridge or freezer, they melt when they come out).

2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup margarine or butter (1 1/2 sticks), softened
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

Steps:

  • About 2 1/2 hours before serving or early in the day
  • In large bowl, with mixer at low speed, beat all ingredients except almonds until mixture is well blended. With hands, knead until mixture forms a ball and is smooth. (chop toasted almonds: place on plate. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Working with half the cookie dough, with hands, on unfloured work surface, roll 1 tablespoon of dough at a time into a 10-inch long rope. Shape rope into a loop-shaped pretzel. Gently press pretzel cookies, top side down, into chopped almonds. Place cookies, almond-side up, about 1/2-inch apart in ungreased large cookie sheet. Bake pretzels cookies, 15 minutes or until cookies begin to brown on bottoms. With pancake turner, remove cookies to wire racks to cool. Repeat with remaining dough. Store cookies in tightly covered container.

Crushed cookies, for garnish, optional

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate in double boiler over medium heat on stove top. Using tongs, or your fingers, quickly dip pretzels in chocolate allowing the excess to run off. Place dipped pretzels on waxed paper lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, colored sugars or other toppings. Allow to harden. You may need to refrigerate for a while to help this along. Once hardened, remove from sheets and store in a cool location, with waxed paper between layers.
  • Tip: Package pretzels in clear cellophane bags or in vase for festive gift giving!

One 10-ounce bag mini marshmallows
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

8 cups puffed chocolate cereal, such as Cocoa Puffs
2 cups crushed pretzels
2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon coconut oil

Steps:

  • Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil leaving a 2-inch overhang on the two short ends. Lightly coat the foil with butter.
  • Melt the butter in a large pot set over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and cook, stirring occasionally, until the marshmallows melt, about 5 minutes. Number Of Ingredients 7

10 ounces pretzel sticks (Pretzel RODS)
12 ounces milk chocolate chips (or melting disks)
1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
candy sprinkles (optional)
miniature M&M's chocolate candies (optional)
mini Reese's pieces (optional)
chopped peanuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Melt milk chocolate chips in double boiler or in microwave (be careful not to burn in the micro).
  • If you are using the white chocolate, wait until later before melting unless you can keep it over warm water.
  • Dip each pretzel rod about 2/3 of the way up in chocolate.
  • Lay on wax paper lined baking sheets, lining up the rods but leave a bit of space between them.
  • Allow to set a little, but not completely dry (while waiting, make sure your white chocolate is ready).
  • Dip a fork into the white chocolate and drizzle over the milk chocolate by gently swishing the fork back and forth over the rods but not touching them.
  • Place your sprinkles or candies on a paper plate and roll each pretzel rod in desired topping (or just sprinkle on).
  • Lay back on wax paper to set completely.
  • These look great displayed in, or given in, a unique glass or mug.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/4 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
1 teaspoon good-quality instant espresso powder
3 tablespoons boiling water
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1 large egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon water
Coarse sanding sugar, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • Stir cocoa and espresso powders into the boiling water in a small bowl until dissolved.
  • Put butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; mix on medium speed until creamy. Mix in vanilla and salt. Reduce speed to medium-low. Mix in egg, then cocoa mixture. Gradually add flour, and mix until a smooth dough forms. Turn out onto a piece of plastic; pat into a square. Wrap dough, and refrigerate until cold, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Divide dough into 24 equal pieces. Roll into balls. Shape balls into 12-inch-long ropes. Form each rope into a pretzel shape. Space 1 inch apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Whisk egg yolk with water in a small bowl. Brush cookies with egg wash; sprinkle with sanding sugar. Bake cookies, rotating sheets halfway through, until dry, about 35 minutes. Let cool on sheets on wire racks. Pretzels can be stored in airtight containers at room temperature up to 1 week.

  • Preheat oven to 200°.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment or waxed paper.
  • Place as many pretzels on the cookie sheet as will fit.
