CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZEL RODS RECIPE

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods Recipe image

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods - Super easy and fun treat to make and gift during the holidays. Beautiful, edible, salty-sweet treats everyone loves!

Provided by DSTR

Categories     Candy     Dessert

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 4

16 oz pretzel rods
12 ounces chocolate chips (semisweet, dark or white chocolate or candy melts)
1-2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
Sprinkles

Steps:

  • Line two large baking sheets with wax or parchment paper.
  • Set up your workstation with all the sprinkles you are going to use. Place about 1/2 cup of colored melting candy (for the drizzle) in heavy-duty zip-top bags.
  • Microwave 2 cups of chocolate chips and vegetable shortening in a tall glass for 45 seconds. Stir. The morsels may retain some of their original shapes. If necessary, microwave for additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring just until morsels are melted.
  • Dip the pretzel rods into melted chocolate, tilting the glass to easily cover as much of the pretzel as you want. Use the side and rim of the glass to remove excess. Place on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with sprinkles.
  • Or microwave the candy melts in the zip-top bags for about 20-25 seconds, squish the candy around until melted and smooth. Cut a tiny cut corner from each of the bags and drizzle.
  • Let set up. Store in an air-tight container.

GOURMET PRETZEL RODS

Gourmet Pretzel Rods image

They're CRUNCHY and CHEWY and SWEET and SALTY and have a touch of CHOCOLATE... the ultimate snack! I get the peanuts and caramels in the bulk food section of the grocery store. It took me a couple of tries to get the caramel right (if you use 2 tablespoons water like some recipes for caramel apples call for, it stays too gooey; if you don't use any water, the caramel gets hard as a rock!)

Provided by JEANNIE C

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

Sprinkles, for garnish, optional
Coconut, for garnish, optional
Crushed cookies, for garnish, optional

CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZEL RODS

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods image

Everyone goes crazy for these Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods dipped in melted caramel and chocolate and sprinkled with your favorite toppings.

Provided by Lauren Allen

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 3

40 Pretzel Rods
16 ounces chocolate*
1/2 batch homemade caramel* (, or 1 bag store-bought caramels)

Steps:

  • Prepare two large baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Prepare homemade caramel (or melt store-bought caramels). Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Allow homemade caramel to cool for about 15 minutes before dipping.
  • Dip Pretzel Rods in caramel. I use a spoon to scoop the sauce onto the pretzels and turn them as I go. Allow excess sauce to drip off and place the dipped pretzels on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • After the caramel sets and cools some of it may pool at the base of the pretzel, causing the bottom to be flat. Use your hands to mold the caramel back around the rod (or just roll the rod gently on the parchment paper to smooth it around).
  • Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, on half power, stirring every 30 seconds, until smooth.
  • Pour the chocolate into a tall glass. Dip the caramel-coated pretzels in melted chocolate. You can use a spoon or spatula to help smooth the chocolate up and around if you need to.
  • Lay the dipped pretzels on a parchment lined sheet. While the chocolate is warm, you can sprinkle on a few light weight toppings or sprinkles, if desired.
  • Allow the chocolate to set up before eating or removing from parchment.

LINDA'S CHOCOLATE DIPPED PRETZEL RODS

Linda's Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods image

Looking for something fun to make for Valentine's Day or Easter? Grab your holiday sprinkles, and have fun! These are a yummy treat for kids and adults alike! I made these for co-workers and family members during the holidays, and put some in gift baskets for Christmas. You can also change the M&M's and use the pastel colored ones for Easter to put in the kiddies Easter Baskets... You can make them for any of the holidays, by just using different holiday jimmies and candies... I wrapped in green and red saran wrap and tied with a coordinating ribbon for Christmas. They look pretty enough to put on top of Christmas presents or packages, use as party favors for kids, or as a place setting using a name tag tied with a ribbon to each one, so the kids know where their seats are. I have dipped them in caramel and then chocolate and sprinkled with nuts and M&M's. I have also used chopped candy bars such as Butterfingers. You could even use the little cinnamon hot red candies for Valentine's Day! Or put those cute candy hearts with the little sayings down the front with some sprinkles. The sky is the limit. Use your imagination, and I am sure they will work fine for you too. Great to do as a fun day with the kiddies too!

  • When chips are melted, take off stove, and dip pretzel rods first in the chocolate to about half way down the rod, then dip the tip into the sprinkles about 2" down the chocolate, and lay on waxed paper.

CHOCOLATE DIPPED PRETZEL RODS

Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods image

These are super easy to make. Fun for kids to help with. I used the left over chocolate to make nut clusters.

Provided by Melanie B

Categories     Other Snacks

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 pkg pretzel rods
1/2 pkg chocolate almond bark (or white)
colored sugars, sprinkles, jimmies, little candies to decorate

Steps:

  • 1. Melt the almond bark over a double boiler. When melted, remove the double boiler to a hot pad (keeping the hot water underneath). Spread waxed paper on a flat surface. Make small piles of your sprinkles/ jimmies/ etc. Dip the pretzel rods about 1/2 way up in the chocolate then roll in the sprinkles. Lay on waxed paper and let sit for a good hour or until chocolate hardens again.
  • 2. If you have left over chocolate, make some nut clusters. I poured in a handful of dry roasted peanuts and made peanut clusters with the excess chocolate. You can use any kind of nuts you have left over from Christmas baking.

FESTIVE DIPPED PRETZEL RODS

Festive Dipped Pretzel Rods image

How to make festive dipped pretzel rods for any occasion or holiday. See video and tips at the bottom.

Provided by Erlene - My Pinterventures

Categories     Dessert

Number Of Ingredients 4

Bag pretzel rods (more bags may be needed depending on how many rods you want to make)
Chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, or mint chips (use all or just one of these flavors or different flavors)*
1/2 tsp. vegetable oil per bag of chocolate or mint chips
Optional - festive sprinkles, crushed cookies/candy cane, toffee bits, nuts, edible glitter, etc...

Steps:

  • Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Make sure the baking sheet is small enough to fit into your freezer. Optional - Place the sheet into your freezer before starting and this can help the chocolate harden quicker.
  • In a microwave safe tall cup (coffee mugs work well), add candy chips and oil. Microwave for 30 seconds on high. Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for another 20 seconds. This helps make sure it's nicely melted and will heat up the cup to help keep the chocolate chips viscous.
  • Take a pretzel rod and dip it into the melted candy, leaving about 2" to 3" of the pretzel rod uncovered (see video below). Let the excess drip off and twirl it around in a circle or back and worth in the cup. This helps remove some of the coating. Place on the prepared baking sheet. If you do not remove enough excess melted chocolate, you will get pooling around the pretzel rod. See the pretzel rod on the right in the next image.
  • If using sprinkles, I like to do the same type in small batches. Continue step 3 until you have about 5-6 pretzel rods. Add sprinkles over top of the pretzel rods before it starts to harden. Continue dipping and decorating pretzels until you have the desired amount of decorated pretzels. Place in the freezer for 2 - 3 minutes to harden.
  • If leaving plain, do step 3 until all the pretzels are dipped and place in the freezer for 2-3 minutes to harden.
  • When the candy dip is low, it will be difficult to continue to dip the pretzel rods. I suggest using a chopstick to drizzle the remaining dip over some pretzel rods or regular pretzels (old tyme pretzels shown).
  • Place pretzel rods in gift bags or a holiday container if giving as gifts. Or store in an airtight container in fridge for up to 3 weeks or the freezer for up to a year. Of course, they'll be gobbled up way before that.

CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZEL RODS

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods image

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods are a sweet and salty treat that is easily customizable for any holiday or occasion and fun for kids to help make too! Perfect for Christmas, Valentine's Day, the 4th of July, Halloween, or almost any occasion!

Provided by Amy Nash

Categories     Dessert

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 3

16 ounces pretzel rods
16 ounces chopped milk, semisweet, dark or white chocolate or candy melts
Sprinkles, mini M&M's, coconut, toffee bits, chopped nuts, etc.

Steps:

  • Melt the chocolate by filling clean, tall heat safe jars with chopped chocolate or candy melts. Set them into the crock pot and carefully fill the crock pot with hot water until it's about halfway up the sides of the jars, being careful not to get any water into the jars with the chocolate at any time.
  • Set the crock pot temperature to high and let the chocolate sit for about 30 minutes without covering. Use a long handled spoon to stir the chocolate as it melts.
  • Once the chocolate is melted, turn the temperature on the crock pot down to low or warm.
  • Dip pretzel rods into the melted chocolate, shaking off any excess chocolate before transferring them to a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with whatever toppings you desire before the chocolate has a chance to set, then let the chocolate fully harden before storing in an airtight container.

  • Melt the candy coating according to package directions giving special care not to overheat the candy. If the candy coating is overheated, it will be too thick. You can add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to help thin the candy but do not add any other type of liquid as the candy will seize and harden.
  • Pour candy coating over two-thirds of the pretzel rod and shake gently to remove excess. If applying sprinkles, do so immediately rotating the pretzel rods to coat all sides. Larger sprinkles work best if placed individually.
  • Place pretzel rod on waxed paper or cooling rack. (Cook’s notes: Waxed paper makes for easier release.)
  • If drizzling with additional colored candy melts, allow initial candy coating to set completely. Then, use a spoon or fork to drizzle candy coating over the pretzel rods. Before the pretzel sets, gently pick it up and move to clean wax paper.

  • Mix ingredients in order over medium heat. Come to a rolling boil to soft ball stage (use a candy thermometer or test in a bowl of cold water – a drop of caramel in the cold water should roll into a soft ball in your fingers). Take caramel off heat and use a spatula to smooth caramel over pretzels. I laid the pretzels on parchment paper after coating them in caramel and after they had set for about 10 minutes, I rolled each one along the parchment paper to eliminate the pool of caramel on the side they were laying on.
  • After caramel has set on pretzels (about 20 minutes), melt desired chocolate in microwave or in a bowl over simmering water. I poured my melted chocolate into a tall glass and dipped each caramel pretzel into the glass to coat the caramel pretzel in chocolate. Again, lay the pretzel to dry on a tray covered in parchment paper. I put them in the refrigerator to set fully before drizzling with white chocolate and more semi-sweet chocolate. For drizzling, use remaining melted chocolate and pour into a ziploc bag. Cut a tiny tip off one corner and drizzle across pretzels. The lady who gave my aunt this recipe had a great idea for Christmas and drizzled the chocolate and caramel covered pretzels in red and green colored chocolate (I believe she used the Wilton candy pieces for the red and green). They were adorable (if you can call pretzels adorable).
  • Don’t worry (like I did) that there is a flat side to the pretzel or that the chocolate may pool underneath the pretzel. Once the chocolate has set, you can easily shave off any unwanted pooling or excess chocolate for a prettier pretzel using a sharp knife.
