Steps:
- In a 12-ounce (375 ml) mug or larger, mix all ingredients (except the chocolate hazelnut spread) until just combined.
- Once combined, spoon the chocolate hazelnut spread on top of the batter.
- Microwave on high for 90 seconds to 2 minutes, watching to make sure it doesn't spill over (depending on the size of the mug).
- Let cool one minute before eating. Top with additional chocolate hazelnut spread and powdered sugar (optional).
- Enjoy!

If you Google "mug cake," you'll get more than 100 million results for the one-serving cake that's baked in a mug in the microwave. Yet finding the right recipe - not too dense, not too sweet - is harder than one might hope. This version, adapted from "Baking Class: 50 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Bake!" by Deanna F. Cook, is great, and requires just a few pantry staples. For a molten chocolate mug cake, sprinkle the top with some mini chocolate chips before popping it into the microwave, then remove it a few seconds early. This cute little cake may have been developed for children, but everyone loves it.

Steps:
- Microwave the butter in a microwave-safe mug in 10-second increments until melted, 20 to 30 seconds. Crack the egg into a small bowl; add the vanilla and whisk to combine using a small whisk or fork. Pour the egg mixture into the mug over the butter and whisk to combine.
- Add the sugar, cocoa powder and salt and whisk until mostly smooth (a few lumps are O.K.). Scrape down the sides the best you can with a spoon or a small silicone spatula. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips, if desired.
- Cook in the microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Sift a little confectioners' sugar on top or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired. Dig in with a spoon.

This easy chocolate mug cake is moist, fluffy, and makes a wonderful dessert for 1 (that means no sharing)! This cake requires no eggs, and it's so simple you just combine the ingredients and pop it in the microwave for a couple of minutes!

- In a small mixing bowl, add all dry ingredients (plus optional but highly recommended espresso powder). Whisk to combine.
- Whisk in the vegetable oil and milk until the batter is smooth and there are no lumps. Add optional chocolate chips if desired and stir to mix.
- Pour the cake batter into a mug, there should be enough room for it to rise a bit as it bakes. If adding Nutella, place it in the middle top of the batter in your mug.
- Place the mug on a paper towel in the microwave then cook on high for 1 ½ minutes, or until baked through. The top of the cake should spring back to the touch, if not heat in additional 15 second increments.
- Let your chocolate mug cake set for 1 minute in the microwave before serving.
