DEEP-DISH TRADITIONAL CHICKEN CORDON BLEU CRESCENT CASSEROLE

I adapted this recipe from one that I found on the Pillsbury website to get a casserole that is more like the traditional chicken cordon bleu. The flaky, sweetness of the crescent rolls in this recipe knocks the taste out of the park! Serve with broccoli for a complete meal.

1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (I used the reduced fat variety)
2 tablespoons salted butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 lb chicken, cooked and shredded
16 slices swiss cheese (8 slices for bottom and 8 for top)
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1/3 cup light sour cream
2 -3 tablespoons Dijon mustard (to taste)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey (optional. We didn't use it)
1 teaspoon horseradish sauce (we used regular prepared horseradish)
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
1 lb deli ham (we used thin shaved honey ham)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375. Spray 13x9" (3 qt) casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Unroll crescent rolls in baking dish; press perforations to seal.
  • Bake 10 to 13 minutes or until light golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, heat butter and oil over medium heat.
  • Add onion and garlic; cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened.
  • Remove from heat; stir in shredded chicken.
  • Place 8 slices of the Swiss cheese over baked crust.
  • In small bowl, stir, mayo, Parmesan cheese, sour cream, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, honey, horseradish sauce and thyme until well blended.
  • Spoon half of the mayonnaise mixture evenly over cheese on crust.
  • Spoon chicken mixture evenly over mayonnaise mixture on crust.
  • Spoon remaining mayonnaise mixture evenly over chicken.
  • Cover chicken evenly with ham.
  • Top with remaining 8 slices Swiss cheese.
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until cheese is melted and filling is thoroughly heated.

8 slices OSCAR MAYER Deli Fresh Smoked Ham, cut in half
8 KRAFT Big Slice Aged Swiss Cheese Slices, cut in half
1 jar (12 oz.) HEINZ HomeStyle Classic Chicken Gravy

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Unroll crescent dough; separate into 8 triangles. Top with chicken, ham and cheese. Roll up tightly, starting at short side of each triangle.
  • Place, point sides down, on baking sheet.
  • Bake 12 to 15 min. or until golden brown. About 5 min. before roll-ups are done, cook gravy in saucepan on medium heat until heated through, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve roll-ups topped with gravy.

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
2 cups shredded cooked chicken
1/2 cup chopped cooked bacon (about 6 slices)
1/2 cup chopped cooked ham
3/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese (12 oz)
2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls

Steps:

  • * Heat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray 18x13-inch cookie sheet with cooking spray. * In large bowl, stir together cream cheese, garlic salt and onion powder until evenly combined. * Add chicken, bacon, ham and Swiss cheese; stir to combine, making sure to evenly coat all ingredients in cream cheese mixture. Set aside. * Using 1 can of crescent dough, separate dough into 4 rectangles (2 crescents per section); place on cookie sheet in circular shape resembling a compass, one rectangle pointing north, one pointing east, one pointing south and the last one pointing west. * Using second can of dough, separate dough into 4 rectangles. Filling gaps of first layer, arrange rectangles in similar circular shape, only this time having one pointing northeast, one pointing southeast, one pointing southwest and the last one pointing northwest. * Evenly spoon cream cheese mixture over dough; mold mixture into shape of ring on center of dough circle, making sure to leave about 1/2-inch gap of dough in center of ring. * Fold outer edges of dough ring over filling to dough without filling in center of ring. Press dough edges to seal completely so filling does not leak out during baking. Seal all gaps, openings and edges to completely cover filling with dough and make a smooth and uniform appearance. * Bake 20 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into servings. Serve warm.
