IMPOSSIBLY EASY HOT DOG AND CHEESE PIE



Impossibly Easy Hot Dog and Cheese Pie image

Wrap up dinner wtih a one-dish hot dog bake - no buns needed.

1/2 lb hot dogs, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1/4 cup chopped onion, if desired
1/2 cup Original Bisquick™ mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
Ketchup and mustard, if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray. Layer hot dog pieces and onion in pie plate.
  • In medium bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk and eggs with wire whisk or fork until blended. Pour into pie plate. Sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Serve with ketchup and mustard.

2 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
3 tablespoons yellow mustard
6 tablespoons water
10 hot dogs
4 cups chili (canned or homemade)
1/2 cup cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Grease 9x13 casserole.
  • Combine baking mix,mustard, and water in a small bowl.
  • Stir until dough forms.
  • Press dough into bottom and up sides of dish with fingers dipped in bisquick.
  • Cut hotdogs length wise and then in half.
  • Place hotdogs on dough.
  • Spoon chili over and sprinkle with cheese. Bake 20 mins or until heated.

1 lb ground beef
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded (divided - 4 ounce go into the topping)
1 dash hot sauce
8 ounces tomato sauce
4 kosher hot dogs, sliced
2 eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup heavy cream
8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef and season with onion powder, chili powder, cumin salt and pepper.
  • Stir in the mustard, hot sauce, tomato sauce and sliced hot dogs.
  • Spread in a greased large pie plate; stir in half of the cheese.
  • Beat the eggs well; whisk in the mayonnaise then the cream. Beat well until smooth. Stir in the remaining cheese.
  • Pour over the meat mixture and spread evenly. Bake at 350º 30-35 minutes.
  • Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

12 hot dogs
cheese slice
1 (15 ounce) can chili hot beans
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
red cayenne pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Cut three 1/2-inch diagonal slits into each hot dog.
  • Cut cheese into 36 strips.
  • Insert a cheese strip in each slit of hot dogs.
  • In a ungreased 11-1/2 x 7 1/2 baking dish mix beans, tomato sauce and seasonings.
  • Place the hot dogs over the bean mixture.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes.

1 (9 inch) pie crusts
3 cups of left over chili (thick is best)
2 hot dogs
1/2 cup left over prepared macaroni and cheese
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons sweet relish
2 tablespoons chopped onions
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Spread leftover chili into the pie shell. Slice hot dogs and place on top of chili. Crumble up macaroni and cheese over the hot dogs.
  • Bake covered w/ foil @ 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove foil and crisscross pie with mustard. Dot entire pie with relish. Sprinkle cheese over all. Return to oven an bake for 15 more minutes.
  • Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes and the serve.

Once again I was on a mission to use up some leftover chili, after perusing several recipes on the net, I created this. Using recipe#496140. Any chili will do, used canned if you are in a hurry. Prep time does not include time to make your own chili.

3 -4 cups chili, canned, homemade Chili With Beef 'n Beans, be sure it is not too soupy
6 hot dogs, uncooked, sliced thin the more the merrier
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded, divided into (4 oz)
1/2 cup original Bisquick baking mix
1 cup milk, any type
2 eggs, slightly beaten
squirts yellow mustard, if desired
chopped onion, if desired

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F Spray (deep) 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray.
  • In medium bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk and eggs with wire whisk or fork until blended.
  • Pour a thin layer of prepared Bisquick batter to the bottom of the pie plate.
  • Drop dollops of chili over bottom of pie plate, spread out a bit and top with sliced hotdogs and 1/2 of cheese.
  • Pour remaining prepared Bisquick batter over chili & cheese.
  • Bake 45 minutes, top with remaining cheese then continue baking for 5-10 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean and center does not jiggle when shook. Depending on how deep your pie plate is, it may take close to 60 minutes to bake. NOTE: If it is getting too brown, cover edges with foil. and continue baking.
  • Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Serve with desired toppings.

2 cups Bisquick
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine, melted
3/4 cup milk
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, undrained
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
20 frozen meatballs, cooked

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375*. Grease pie plate. Mix Bisquick, margarine and milk until soft dough forms. Place dough on surface well dusted with Bisquick; gently roll in bisquick to coat. Shape into ball; knead 5 times. Divide dough in half; press half on bottom and up side of pie plate.
  • Heat remaining ingredients in 3-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and thickens. Pour meatball mixture into pie plate. Pat remaining dough into 9 inch circle on surface dusted with Bisquick; place over filling. Press edge of pie lightly to seal.
  • Bake 30-35 minutes or until crust is light brown. Let stand 5 minutes. Serve with a fresh green salad.
  • **For a flavor kick use Italian or Mexican style stewed tomatoes.

Made with 'second day chili' (everyone knows chili is best the second day) this is a delicious way to eat a chili dog in a new way! When I was a child we used to make hotdogs this way from time to time (especially when there were no hotdog buns in the house but we had hamburger buns) and I discovered one day that it is a perfect platform for a heaping helping of chili! Eaten with a fork, this is one chilidog that attempts to step onto the good china :)

6 hot dogs
6 hamburger buns
3 cups leftover chili
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup diced onion

Steps:

  • Take the raw hotdogs and slice 2/3 of the way through every half an inch (not lengthwise but as if you were cutting it up and not cutting all the way through).
  • Place hotdogs in pot and cook per directions on package, as they cook they will curl into circles.
  • Re-heat chili.
  • Place the now circular hotdogs on the bottom hamburger buns, fill the center with chili to overflowing.
  • Sprinkle with cheese and onions, then place top bun upside down on top of the chili, top with a little more chili and cheese and enjoy!
