CHARLENE'S "GRANDMA'S COOKIES"
I received these as part of a Christmas bake exchange. Charlene was kind enough to share the recipe with me! This makes a huge recipe but these freeze very well.

Steps:
- Cream shortening, add sugar and eggs, beat well.
- Then add alternately the flour sifted with the baking powder, soda, salt with the milk.
- Roll out and cut with cookie cutter or glass top, bake at 375°F until done.

- ice with your favourite icing and sprinkles.
- or try using crushed candy canes and drizzle with chocolate.
GRANDMA'S M&MS COOKIES
I got this recipe from my grandma. These cookes do not last long around the house when I make them. Cooking time includes time to cook each sheet of cookies and not the whole batch.

Steps:
- Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, and vanilla thoroughly. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients gradually to creamed mixture. Mix well. Stir in 1/1/2 cups M&Ms. Reserve remaining candies for decorating.
- Drop by teaspoon on ungreased baking sheet. Decorate tops of cookies with remaining M&M's. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, or until brown. After baking, some of the candies may be slighly cracked. This adds texture and interest to your cookies. Makes about 6 dozen 2 1/2 inch cookies.
- If you use self-rising flour, omit soda and salt.

- Preheat oven to 350.
- Beat butter with mixer and add both sugars, beating well.
- Add eggs til well blended.
- Combine flour and next 4 ingredients.
- Add to sugar mixture.
- Stir in coconut, cereal, vanilla, and nuts.
- Drop by tblsp.
- onto baking sheet.
- Bake at 350 for 10 minute.
- or til lightly brown.
- Remove from pan to cool.

- In a large bowl, beat shortening and sugars until blended. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into sugar mixture. Stir in oats and coconut., Divide dough into 4 portions. On a lightly floured surface, shape each into a 6-in.-long log. Wrap in waxed paper; freeze 2 hours or until firm., Preheat oven to 350°. Unwrap and cut dough crosswise into 1/2-in. slices, reshaping as needed. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on pans 5 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool., Freeze option: Place wrapped logs in a freezer container; return to freezer. To use, unwrap frozen logs and cut into slices. If necessary, let dough stand a few minutes at room temperature before cutting. Prepare and bake as directed.
