My husband and I love Caprese salad, but not the high prices we pay for it in restaurants. Here, we created our own version which tastes incredibly close, if not better, than any restaurant version we've tried. -Melissa Pearson, Sandy, Utah

Ingredients

4 medium tomatoes, sliced
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
1/2 pound fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

Arrange the tomatoes, cheese and basil on a serving platter. Whisk the vinaigrette ingredients; drizzle over salad. If desired, sprinkle with additional salt and pepper.

3 medium vine-ripe tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
12 ounces fresh mozzarella or burrata cheese, cut into slices
Olive oil, for drizzling
Good-quality balsamic vinegar, for drizzling
Bunch fresh basil leaves, for topping
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

Fan the tomato and mozzarella rounds across a platter, alternating between the two. Coat with olive oil and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Tear pieces of basil and sprinkle over top. Season with salt and pepper.

2 balls of mozzarella (or vegetarian alternative), sliced
handful of basil leaves
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

Steps:

Arrange the slices of tomato and mozzarella on a platter, alternating between slices of each, and sprinkle over the basil leaves. Season generously with salt and black pepper, then drizzle over the olive oil and vinegar. Serve straightaway.
