Cajun Sweet Potato Fries image

Cajun-spiced sweet potato fries baked to crispy perfection. Simple, healthy, fast, and packed with spicy-sweet flavor! Just 9 ingredients!

Provided by Minimalist Baker

Categories     Appetizer     Side     Snack

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 large sweet potatoes ((scrubbed clean // organic when possible))
2 Tbsp olive, avocado, or melted coconut oil
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme*
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper*
1 Tbsp sugar of choice ((optional // (coconut + cane are best))

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (218 C).
  • Leave the skin on and cut sweet potatoes into thin, even match sticks with a very sharp knife.
  • Transfer to two baking sheets and drizzle with olive oil. Then sprinkle with seasonings, sugar and toss.
  • Transfer fries to 1 large or 2 baking sheets (or more if making a larger batch) and arrange in a single layer to ensure they crisp up.
  • Bake for 15 minutes and flip/stir to cook on the other side. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes more or until brown and crispy. You'll know they're done when the edges are dark brown and crispy.
  • Remove from oven and either serve as is or drizzle with a bit of maple syrup (or honey if not vegan) to offset spiciness.
  • Serve plain or with your favorite dip, such as Whiskey BBQ Ketchup.

SPICY CAJUN SWEET POTATO FRIES WITH BLUE CHEESE YOGURT

Spicy Cajun Sweet Potato Fries with Blue Cheese Yogurt image

Sweet, smoky and slightly spicy Cajun Sweet Potato Fries make a super delicious and healthy side. The easy to make blue cheese yogurt calms down the spice and makes the fries extra tasty.

Provided by Kristen Stevens

Categories     Side Dish

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 teaspoon each: smoked paprika, chili powder, oregano, and garlic powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon cayenne powder (less if you're really sensitive to heat)
2 medium sweet potatoes (cut into ¼-inch strips)
2 teaspoons olive oil
Chopped parsley (to serve)
6 tablespoons Greek yogurt
3 tablespoons blue cheese (crumbled)
½ teaspoon dijon mustard
A pinch of sea salt and a few cranks of pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl mix together the smoked paprika, chili powder, oregano, garlic powder, sea salt and cayenne powder.
  • Place the sweet potato strips in a large bowl, drizzle with the olive oil and mix well. Sprinkle the spice mix over the sweet potatoes and mix them together so that each fry is well coated in spices.
  • Divide the fries between the two baking sheets, making sure none of the fries are touching. Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins, turning halfway. They are ready when they start to brown.
  • While the fries are in the oven, make the blue cheese yogurt. In a small bowl mix together all the blue cheese yogurt ingredients and set aside.
  • Serve the fries with a little chopped parsley on top and the blue cheese yogurt on the side.

1 medium sweet potato, peeled and cut into sticks about 1/4-inch thick
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon cajun seasoning, to taste
6 ounces boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips

  • Preheat your grill to high heat and the oven to 450°F
