2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 pounds bratwursts (about 10 links)
1/2 cup apple juice
1 large yellow onion, sliced
One 12-ounce package fresh coleslaw mix
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 apple, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Place a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.
  • Carefully place the brats in the skillet and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, 6 to 8 minutes. Add apple juice and reduce heat to medium-low. Cover the skillet and cook until the sausages are cooked through, about 10 minutes more. Remove the sausages and set aside, leaving any cooking liquids in the skillet.
  • Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they have softened and browned slightly, about 5 minutes. Add the coleslaw mix, apple cider vinegar, caraway seeds and red pepper flakes, then season with salt and pepper and stir to combine. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the coleslaw is wilted, about 5 minutes more. Stir in the sliced apples and let cook until warmed through, another 2 minutes.
  • Return the cooked sausages to the skillet and serve.

1 large sweet onion
1 package (19-1/2 ounces) turkey bratwurst links, casing removed and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Cut cabbage in half through the core. Remove core and cut cabbage into 1/4-in. slices; set aside. Cut onion in half and cut into 1/4-in. slices; set aside. In a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray, cook and stir bratwurst over medium-high heat for 8 minutes or until browned on all sides. Drain and remove bratwurst; set aside and keep warm., Add cabbage and onion to the same skillet; cook and stir for 6 minutes. Sprinkle with soy sauce, garlic powder and pepper. Cook and stir for 4 minutes longer. Return bratwurst to skillet. Cook for 2 minutes. Cover; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender and bratwurst is cooked through. 2 cloves garlic, smashed
3 pounds precooked bratwurst, pricked with a fork
6 bottles dark beer
2 cups water
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 (1-inch) piece of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
Hot dog buns, brown bread, or hoagie buns
Sweet and hot German mustard, optional, for garnish
Spicy brown mustard, optional, for garnish
Red Cabbage Sauerkraut, recipe follows
Pickles, optional, for garnish
Pickled beets, optional, for garnish
Pickled eggs, optional, for garnish
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cups red wine vinegar
1 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon whole mustard seeds
2 cloves garlic, peeled and thinly sliced
1 large head red cabbage, thinly shredded
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill to high. Arrange the onion slices and garlic along the bottom of a medium stockpot. Place the bratwurst on top and then add the beer, water, coriander, caraway, mustard seeds, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over the grill grates or on a burner. Simmer the sausages in the mixture for about 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the bratwurst sit in the liquid for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the sausages with a pair of tongs onto a platter. Remove the onions with a slotted spoon and place in a bowl. Grill the sausages until the casings are crisp and golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Serve the bratwurst on the buns with the onions, mustard and sauerkraut, if desired. Garnish with pickles, pickled beets, and pickled eggs, if desired.
  • Preheat grill to high. In a medium saucepan, combine the oil, vinegar, water, and sugar over medium heat, and cook until the sugar has melted. Add the mustard seeds, garlic, and cabbage, and cook until the cabbage is soft, about 15 to 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

You can also use linked brats jsut the same! We love this with gravy, rice/spaetzle and red cabbage... It is definitely one of our monthly must haves!

1 large onion, sliced thick
1 tablespoon minced garlic clove
1 tablespoon butter
20 ounces beer (we prefer Budlight)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a skillet over medium heat Saute the garlic and butter for approx one minute.
  • Add in the onions, salt, pepper, and enough beer to cover the bottom of the pan.
  • Cook the onions over medium heat until tender and caremelized.
  • Remove the onions from the pan and place the bratwurst in the pan. Brown the bratwurst and cook.
  • Once the bratwurst are cooked add the onions and remaining beer to the pan. Cook over medium heat until the beer has reduced to a thicker sauce with the onions.

1 large onion (1/2 pound), halved lengthwise, then thinly sliced crosswise
1/3 cup cider vinegar
3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Season cabbage wedges with salt, then steam in a steamer rack set over boiling water, covered, until tender, about 15 minutes.
  • While cabbage is steaming, cook bacon in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderately low heat, stirring occasionally, until crisp-tender, about 12 minutes.
  • Transfer bacon with a slotted spoon to a plate and reserve rendered fat in a small bowl.
  • Wipe out skillet with a paper towel and return 3 tablespoons bacon fat to skillet. Cut sausages in half lengthwise and cook, cut sides down, over moderately low heat until browned and heated through, about 7 minutes. Transfer sausages with tongs to a plate and keep warm, covered. Add onion to skillet and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until beginning to soften, about 6 minutes. Add sausages and bacon and cook, stirring, until heated through. 1 medium red onion, chopped
1/2 medium head of red cabbage, thinly sliced

Steps:
