Steps:

  • Pour beer into a bowl and let stand at room temperature for a few hours to go flat.
  • Place all ingredients in the pan according to the order in the manufacturer's directions.
  • Set crust on dark and program for the Basic cycle; press Start.
  • When the baking cycle ends, immediately remove the bread from the pan and place it on a rack.
  • Let cool to room temperature before slicing.

1 gfJules Sandwich Bread Mix can
3 cups gfJules™ All Purpose Flour (405 grams)
1/4 cup dry milk powder/non-dairy milk powder (coconut milk powder 27 grams) OR almond meal (44 grams) OR plain GF potato flakes (16 grams)
1 tsp. sea salt (5 grams)
1 Tbs. granulated cane sugar (16 grams)
10 oz. gluten free beer (I especially like Green's or Glutenberg in this recipe) or sparkling water, club soda or ginger ale - room temperature
3 large eggs - room temperature or substitute
3 Tbs. olive oil
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
2 Tbs. honey or agave nectar
2 1/4 tsp. (one packet) rapid rise or bread machine yeast (Red Star® Quick Rise)
sesame seeds, poppy seeds or other topping of choice (optional)

Steps:

  • Prepare a regular loaf pan (at least 9×5) by oiling it well. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, apple cider vinegar and honey. In another large bowl, whisk all dry ingredients except yeast (flour, salt, milk powder and sugar). With mixer on low speed, slowly pour the dry ingredients into the liquids to combine. Continue beating while slowly pouring in the beer to mix. Once incorporated, add the yeast. Beat until the batter is smooth, then increase mixing speed and beat for 4 minutes. Pour batter into oiled pan, filling no more than half-way up. Cover with oiled wax paper or parchment and let rise in a warm, moist place for at least 30 minutes (an oven preheated to 200 F, then turned off, with a bowl of water in the oven to add moisture, is a good option). Do not let the bread rise over the side of the pan, or it will rise too much to support itself and may collapse when cooling. Once the bread has risen, lightly brush with oil to help it brown, then sprinkle any toppings on at this point. Preheat the oven to 375º F (static) or 350º F (convection). Bake for approximately 35 minutes. The internal temperature of the bread should be approximately 205 - 210º F. The loaf should have risen above the top of the pan, and will be golden brown with a nice crust. Remove to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, laying it on one side, then the other to help support it as it cools. Then gently remove the loaf from the pan to finish cooling on a wire rack. Cut only when fully cooled. Store in a sealed ziptop bag on the counter - do not refrigerate, or it will dry the bread out. *If using a bread machine, bring all ingredients to room temperature. Add liquids to the pan first, then the dry ingredients, followed by the yeast, pouring into a small well made in the middle with your finger. Use the gluten-free 2lb loaf setting. A tender beer bread with a rich cheesy taste reminiscent of cheese nips. Excellent plain, in sandwiches, or toasted.

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle premium lager
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons milk
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons yeast
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dried marjoram
½ teaspoon dried basil
8 ounces reduced-fat extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons margarine, melted

Steps:

  • Grease two 9x5-inch loaf pans.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm beer slightly. Stir in milk and 2 tablespoons margarine to melt. Pour contents into bread machine pan. Pour in flour. Make a well in the center of the flour, and sprinkle salt onto one side of the mound that forms. Into the well, pour the sugar and yeast. Sprinkle with pepper, onion, garlic, and herbs. Begin the dough cycle.
  • Meanwhile, slice the cheese into pea-size crumbles. Avoid using shredded cheese, as it may clump. Once the dough forms into a sticky ball, gradually add the cheese crumbles.
  • As the cycle continues and the cheese fully incorporates into the dough, the ball should still be somewhat soft and sticky. If it is too dry, add a bit of milk.
  • When the cycle has completed, punch down the dough, and divide it in half. Place each half into a greased loaf pan, and allow the dough to rise, about 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • When the dough has risen, bake for 1 hour, or until the loaves are golden brown and make a hollow sound when thumped. Immediately turn out onto a cooling rack, and brush with melted margarine. Cool completely before cutting.

It was my husbands first attempt at breadmaking (of any kind) and it turned out so fabulous!It's a simple basic bread that smells and tastes delightful. We served it with a homemade Garlic butter spread. My husband set the opened beer out the night before to go flat.Time is approximate.

2 teaspoons yellow mustard

Definitely save this Beer Bread for later! You're going to want to make it again! (and again and again!) You probably already have the ingredients in your cupboard!

1 packet yeast (active dry yeast)
1/2 cup very warm water
1 bottle beer
1/2 tablespoon garlic salt
1 & 1/2 cups finely shredded cheese (I used a blend, but just cheddar is great too!)
4 cups all purpose flour
additional flour for surface

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside in a warm place for ten minutes.
  • Add beer, garlic salt, and cheese to the bowl. Mix well.
  • Add flour in one cup increments, until a sticky dough forms.
  • Cover and let rise 60 minutes (I do it in my oven with the light on).
  • Place an oven safe dish full of water onto the lowest oven rack and preheat oven to 425 degrees (If you're letting your dough rise in the oven, don't forget to remove it!)
  • Punch dough down, dump onto a well floured surface and shape into a ball.
  • Drop dough ball into a well oiled cast iron pot (or onto a baking stone, or baking sheet, or into loaf pans) and slice an "X" in the top. Bake at 425 for 25 - 35 minutes (until it sounds hollow when you tap on it).
  • Enjoy!

  • Pretty Simple, Even a Guy Can Do It. So this is a pretty basic bread except for the extra stuff. I have changed it some from the original one I tried.
  • The Rest of the Stuff. You need 3 cups of flour. I used 2 of a bread flour and one of whole wheat. I think it has a little more body that way. Interestingly I had just put some wood in the wood stove when I started this loaf and I had some sawdust stuck to my shirt.
  • Put It All Together. I have read bread machine instructions where they say to put in ingredients in a certain order. I never saw the point since it all gets mixed up in the first few seconds anyway.
  • Mixing. This is the easy part, compliments of the bread machine. It does all the work. Set the program for a basic bread. I always set the crust to light, maybe that is just because of my machine.
  • The Results. After 3 hours, the machine beeps and you get to take out your finished loaf. All that is left is to cut it up, put a little butter on it and enjoy it.
