SUNNY'S MEATLOAF BURGERS

Sunny's Meatloaf Burgers image

Provided by Sunny Anderson

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h10m

Yield 3 to 4 burgers

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 1/2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sriracha
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 white onion, chopped
8 to 10 fresh oregano leaves, finely chopped
2 sprigs fresh thyme, finely chopped
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 stale slices white bread, rubbed between hands to make sand
1 large egg
One 212-milliliter jar sun-dried tomato or basil pesto (about 3/4 cup)
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 ounces freshly grated Parmesan
2 cloves garlic, grated on a rasp
1 pound ground chuck (80/20)
3 to 4 burger buns, warmed
Thin potato chips, for topping

Steps:

  • For the sauce: Combine the ketchup, vinegar, sriracha and pepper in a small pot. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced slightly, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove and refrigerate.
  • For the patties: Add the olive oil to a small pan on medium-high heat, then add the onion, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper and 1 tablespoon water. Stir to coat everything and cook until the onions are translucent but not browned, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine the bread, egg, pesto, Worsterschire sauce, Parmesan and garlic in a medium bowl. Add the sauteed onions to the breadcrumb mixture and stir to completely combine. Break up the beef in a large bowl with your hands or a wooden spatula. Add the breadcrumb mixture and gently mix together.
  • Preheat the grill for cooking with direct and indirect heat at 350 degrees F or heat a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Evenly divide the mixture into 3 or 4 balls and form into patties. Place on the direct heat of the grill or into the pan. Cook on one side until the patties release, 5 to 6 minutes, then flip, transferring to the indirect heat of the grill. If using a pan, simply lower the heat and cover the patties with a lid or upside-down metal bowl. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F, 5 to 6 minutes more. Remove from the heat and let rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
  • For the burgers: Add a patty to each bun bottom, then top with the sauce and a pile of potato chips. Top with the bun tops. Enjoy!

MEATLOAF HAMBURGER PATTIES

Meatloaf Hamburger Patties image

Meatloaf Hamburger Patties are individually sized mini-meatloaves cooked on the stovetop instead of in the oven! Topped with a tangy, sweet brown sugar ketchup glaze, this may be an old-fashioned recipe but the classic comfort food flavors will never go out of style.

Provided by Amy Nash

Categories     Dinner

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup onion (diced (about 1/2 a small onion))
1 egg
1/2 cup saltine cracker crumbs (about 12 crackers*)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/3 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup
3 Tablespoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine all of the meatloaf ingredients and mix together by hand. Shape into 4-5 individual patties.
  • Make the topping by combining 1/3 cup ketchup and the brown sugar in a small bowl and stirring until smooth.
  • Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat then add a little oil to it. When the oil is hot, carefully place each hamburger patty into the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes until nicely browned on the bottom, then flip to cook the other side. Immediately top each hamburger patty with some of the brown sugar ketchup topping while the patties cook for another 5 minutes on the other side.
  • When the meatloaf patties are no longer pink in the center, remove from the skillet and let rest for 5 minutes so the juices can redisperse. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans, or on hamburger buns for a meatloaf sandwich.

CHEF JOHN'S GRILLED BACON MEATLOAF BURGERS

Chef John's Grilled Bacon Meatloaf Burgers image

I love meatloaf, but not as much as I love meatloaf sandwiches. In fact, I'll make a meatloaf just for the leftovers. I'll fry the cold slice in a buttered pan until hot and crusty, and enjoy it on toast with ketchup. This recipe is basically that, plus bacon, in burger form.

Provided by Chef John

Categories     Main Dish Recipes     Burger Recipes     Hamburgers

Time 3h20m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 large egg, beaten
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
pinch dried thyme
cayenne pepper to taste
¼ cup plain bread crumbs
⅔ cup chopped cooked bacon
1 pound ground chuck beef (85% lean)

Steps:

  • Whisk egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, and cayenne pepper together in a bowl. Add breadcrumbs and chopped cooked bacon. Crumble in the ground beef. Mix with your fingers until bacon and breadcrumbs are distributed evenly.
  • Form mixture into 4 burgers with your wet hands. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until chilled thoroughly, about 3 hours.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Place burgers on the grate and cook, turing occasionally, until firm and cooked to your desired doneness. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read between 145 and 150 degrees F (63 degrees C). Let burgers rest for a few minutes before serving.

BBQ MEATLOAF

BBQ Meatloaf image

Boldy seasoned and outrageously flavorful, this mouthwateringly tender BBQ Meatloaf won't last long on your dinner table.

Provided by Fox Valley Foodie

Categories     Entree

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 cup milk
1 egg ((beaten))
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3 dashes liquid smoke ((optional))
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Steps:

GRILLED MEATLOAF BURGERS

Grilled Meatloaf Burgers image

These burgers are super flavorful and have the same tenderness and meatloaf. If you like a more firm burger, leave out the milk when making the mix. The sauce is great and we will sometimes double the sauce recipe so we'll have extra for dipping fries or other goodies into. You can also cook these on a skillet over medium-high heat.

Categories     Main Course     Sandwiches

Time 26m

Number Of Ingredients 20

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (, pork, chicken or turkey)
1/2 cup bread crumbs ( or panko)
1 large egg
2 Tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
1/2 cup diced onion (, about 1/4 medium onion)
2 cloves garlic (, minced)
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground mustard powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt (, or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
1/4 cup ketchup ( or tomato sauce)
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup ketchup
2 Tablespoons bbq sauce
2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder ((optional, will make the sauce spicy))
6 Burger Buns (, brioche style buns are great with the meatloaf patties)
Lettuce, Tomates, pickles, sliced onions, etc. (, whatever you love on your burger)

Steps:

  • If grilling, preheat grill (on high if you have that option). Scrape grill grates clean to minimize sticking.
  • In a large bowl combine all the meatloaf ingredients (beef, bread crumbs, egg, parsley, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, pepper, ketchup or tomato sauce, and milk). Cook a small piece of the meat at the point to taste for seasonings. If you want to add more salt/pepper, add it now before baking.
  • Form the meat into 6 patties, they will be a little softer than traditional burger patties (we'll often use wax paper to help separate them later.)
  • Make the sauce: combine all the sauce ingredients (ketchup, bbq sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and chipotle) and pour over the top and top edges of the meatloaf.
  • Lighly oil grill grates. Cook patties for about 3 minutes on the first side. Carefully flip the patties (they will be more tender than a traditional burger), and then coat the topside with sauce. Continue cooking for another 3 minutes, or until cooked through. Toast the buns and serve with additonal sauce & your desired burger toppings.

BBQ HAMBURGERS

BBQ Hamburgers image

My mom did a great job of feeding a family of 6 on a budget. She made the ground beef go farther by making it a bit more like meatloaf, then my dad would slather on the BBQ sauce on the grill. The result are tasty, moist hamburgers.

Provided by karen

Categories     Meat

Time 30m

Yield 12 hamburgers, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 lbs ground beef (or ground chuck or ground round)
3 eggs
3/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
1/2 cup barbecue sauce or 1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon minced onion (dried)
barbecue sauce
hamburger bun

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, using your hands, combine the ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs and barbecue sauce/ketchup. Add additional sauce or breadcrumbs as needed so that the meat has a meatloaf texture - not dry or too wet, and holds together in a large ball easily.
  • Add garlic powder and minced onion and mix well until distributed throughout meat.
  • Pinch off about 3/4 cup of meat and roll into ball, then flatten with your hands. The hamburgers will shrink when cooked, so adjust the size based on your tastes. Allow for 4-5 patties per pound.
  • Heat outdoor grill. Grill patties on one side for about 10 minutes, then flip over when the meat is browned on the underside and some grill marks are visible.
  • Using a spoon or brush, cover the cooked side with barbecue sauce. Cook until the underside is browned with grill marks and flip again. Cover the top with barbecue sauce again. Flip one more time and then remove from grill.
  • Serve on hamburger bun with your favorite toppings (or plain).
  • NOTE: Cooking time will vary depending on how hot the grill is and how well done you like the burgers. We find it usually takes about 20 minutes total on the grill.
  • NOTE: If you want to make cheeseburger, place a piece of cheese on each burger just before removing from the grill. Cook until the cheese is melted and remove.

  • Get your grill ready: Set up your grill for indirect cooking with a foil drip pan. We are looking for a medium high heat of about 400°F.
  • Gather your ingredients: You can always make the meatloaf ahead and have it ready to go in your refrigerator. If your meatloaf is chilled it can be placed directly on the grill for an allover crust.
  • Cook the vegetables: Heat the oil in nonstick skillet on your side burner over medium heat. When hot cook the onions until golden, about 6 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Blend the meat: Process saltines and milk in food processor until smooth, add the beef and pork and pulse until well combined, about ten 1-second pulses.
  • Shape the loaf: Transfer meat mixture to a sheet of foil and shape into 9- by 5-inch loaf. Wet your hands and smooth the top of the meatloaf.
  • Place on the grill: Place the meatloaf on indirect heat over the dip pan so that the grease will drain into the pan, close the lid and let it cook for about 45 minutes at 400°, if you like you can add a handful of wood chips at this time for a little smoky flavor.
  • Making the glaze: Whisk all the ingredients in saucepan until sugar dissolves. Simmer the glaze over medium heat until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Glazing the meatloaf: Do not glaze the meatloaf until it forms a crust. This is the greatest part of cooking it free form on a grill, after 45 minutes take the temperature and glaze it for the first time.
  • Ready to Serve? : Yes, the meatloaf is ready to go, or you can take it one step further to make it even better, In the Weber Grill Restaurants we cut the meatloaf into one inch slices and place them back on the grill over direct heat to crisp the cut sides of the meatloaf.

Author Dan Mckay
  • Black Eyed Pea Vegan Burger. Vegans rejoice! The luck of black eyed peas is on your side. You can now enjoy a delicious vegan burger that rivals those of your meat-eater friends.
  • Falafel Burger. If you’re a fan of the almighty garbanzo, look no further than this creative take on a Middle Eastern classic. Serve with tomato jam and an herb-infused Greek yogurt to kick up your condiment game.

  • Kimchi Chicken Burger. Spice things up with fiery kimchi served on a chicken patty doused in spicy mayonnaise. It’s the perfect excuse to crack open another tongue-soothing beer (or pour another slushy cocktail).
  • Juicy Lucy Burger. Standard cheeseburgers are great. Our Juicy Lucy, where the cheese is INSIDE the burger, is even better. Adapted from a Minneapolis bar favorite (two bars have competing claims for the invention), the Juicy Lucy is a traditional hamburger stuffed with your choice of cheese—just make sure you go with a soft, meltable one for the proper amount of ooze.
  • Chowhound Veggie Burger. Fresh is always better, so ditch the frozen veggie patty and try out the recipe for our official Chow Veggie burger. It’s packed full of vegetables like zucchini, carrot, onion, and beet, brown grains, and tons of flavor.
  • Mediterranean Lamb Burger. With flavors reminiscent of a gyro, our burger is an easy entry point for anyone looking to incorporate lamb into their protein repertoire—just treat it like ground beef and you’ll be good to go.
  • Bull Market Burger. If you’re used to spending your Labor Day weekend in the Hamptons or on your boss’s yacht (or just wish you were), this might be the recipe for you.
  • Bison Burgers with Mushrooms and Spring Onions. Get your Oregon Trail on with our recipe for bison burgers! Bison, a throwback animal from the days of wagon rides and dysentery, has found a nice resurgence thanks to the health conscious movement (and all those paleo practitioners).
  • BBQ Bacon Turkey Burgers. Usually, turkey burgers suck. However, they don’t have to. Take for example, our BBQ Bacon Turkey Burger recipe. Covered in BBQ sauce and topped with bacon, it could go 12 rounds with any beef burger in a flavor fight.
