BAKED PEARS (NO ADDED SUGAR)

Baked Pears (No Added Sugar) image

Baked pears are an elegant dessert that's easy enough to make for family dinners. This recipe has no added sugar, and you're not going to miss it!

Provided by Vered DeLeeuw

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 large pears (2 lb. total weight, firm (don't use ripe pears))
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, plus 1 teaspoon for the pan)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter the bottom of a 9 X 13 baking dish.
  • Peel the pears, halve and core them. You can core them with a melon baller, with a metal measuring spoon, or with a paring knife, as I do in the video below. I like to leave the stems on - they make for a pretty presentation. But you can cut them off if you wish. You can also shave a thin slice off the bottom of each pear half, enabling them to stay upright in the baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, vanilla, and cinnamon. Brush the pears with the mixture on both sides.
  • Arrange the pears in the prepared baking dish, cut side down. Bake them until fork-tender, about 30 minutes per side, basting every 15 minutes with the pan juices.
  • Brush the pears one last time with the pan juices and serve warm.

FRESH PEAR CRISP

Fresh Pear Crisp image

Mildred Sherrer's comforting fruit crisp is a pared-down version of one her mother used to fix. "I made it healthier by using reduced-fat margarine, fresh pears instead of canned and oats for some of the flour," she explains from Fort Worth, Texas. As a finishing touch, she suggests topping it with fat-free yogurt or whipped cream.

Provided by Taste of Home

Categories     Desserts

SPICED FRESH PEARS

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 dash ground cloves, optional
4 fresh, ripe pears

Steps:

  • Combine the water, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and let cook for 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool. Peel the pears (if desired) and slice them in half. Remove the seeds. Drizzle or brush the pears on all sides with the lemon juice. Place the pears in covered container. When the spiced syrup has cooled, pour it over the pears. Cover the container and place the pears in the refrigerator for 8 hours, gently turning the container occasionally to coat the pears in the syrup.
