ASIAN SESAME DRESSING

Asian Sesame Dressing image

A fantastic standby dressing to have on hand because it keeps for 3 weeks! Use this Asian dressing for leafy green salads, Asian slaws, noodle salads and chopped salads. It's also a terrific dressing to make steamed vegetables so much tastier. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh sesame seeds and sliced greens onions!

Provided by Nagi | RecipeTin Eats

Categories     Salad

Time 3m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1/4 cup white vinegar ((adjust to taste for sharpness))
1/4 cup olive oil ((Note 1))
1 tbsp sugar ((any type) or 1 1/2 tbsp honey)
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 tbsp olive oil ((Note 1))
1 tsp sugar ((any type) or 1 1/2 tsp honey)

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in a jar and shake well until sugar is dissolved. Adjust saltiness with salt and sweetness with sugar to taste.
  • Keep for up to 3 weeks, in the fridge (to be safe). Bring to room temp and shake well before use.
  • Single serving batch is enough for 3 - 4 cups of shredded cabbage / leafy greens i.e. a side salad for 4 people.
  • Big batch - my rule of thumb for how much dressing to use is generally 1 tbsp of dressing per 1 packed cup of shredded vegetables and 2 tsp per handful of leafy greens.

CHINESE STYLE SESAME SAUCE

This is the SAUCE for Chinese restaurant style sesame chicken and broccoli. This sauce can be poured over fried chicken, or used as a dipping sauce for fried chicken. I emphasize not using too much vinegar because it turns into a sweet-n-sour type sauce. But you do need a 'touch' of vinegar.

Thick and chewy rice noodles coated in a slightly sweet, savoury, and really satisfying hoisin sesame sauce. Mix it all up and slurp away! You'll only need 1 pot, 1 bowl, 8 Ingredients, and 15 minutes (or less) to make this dish. This has easily become a staple weekday meal for this busy days since it's so easy to put together. These noodles can also be made gluten-free by using gluten-free hoisin sauce.

Provided by Jeeca

Categories     Main Course

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tbsp hoisin sauce (, use gluten-free hoisin sauce if needed)
1 tbsp Chinese sesame paste (see notes for sub)
2 tbsp warm water
1 tbsp maple syrup (or other sweetener)
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 tsp sesame seeds
130 g dry thick rice noodles (I used 10mm thick ones)
Bokchoy or other vegetables of choice like mustard greens (spinach, etc. (optional))
Soy sauce ( or tamari, to taste (optional))
Chili garlic sauce
Chopped scallion

Steps:

  • Place all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Mix until well incorporated. Set aside.
  • Note: it's important that you have the sauce ready before cooking the noodles since you'll want to immediately add in the freshly cooked noodles to the sauce right after cooking.
  • Heat a small pot with water. Once it boils, add in the veggies (if using). Cook until tender. Set aside.
  • In the same pot, cook the noodles until chewy.
  • The noodles will turn into a solid white colour when ready. Best to try it too to see if it's cooked enough to your liking! I prefer mine really chewy.
  • Remove from the pot and then drain out the water.
  • Immediately transfer the noodles to the sauce.
  • Mix the noodles well to coat evenly. Feel free to add soy sauce and chili sauce, if you'd like, to taste.
  • Top with the chopped scallion and the blanched veggies (if using).
  • Enjoy and slurp away!

SESAME SAUCE

Sesame Sauce image

This is a wonderful sauce from a local restaurant. Its sought after and thankfully they are planning on bottling it but I just couldn't wait and happened to get the recipe from a friend who got it from a former employee. Its super tasty over rice, goes well as a dipping sauce for steak and prawns or whatever you want to try.

6 tablespoons ground sesame seeds
1 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds

  • You can substitute whole seseame seeds for the ground but make sure to blend on high for a long time.

SESAME OIL CHICKEN

Sesame Oil Chicken image

Sesame Oil Chicken is an easy and healthy recipe. If you grew up in Asia, this would remind you of home and childhood. In this recipe, the power of the 3 sauces - oyster sauce, dark soy sauce and light soy sauce gets released to its full potential when combined with the sharp and earthy flavors of ginger. The Chinese cooking wine then completes the dish, and the taste becomes fuller to almost savory perfection. Season with sesame seeds and serve with warm rice for lunch or dinner.

Provided by Asian Food Network

Categories     Chinese Food Recipes | Learn To Cook Chinese Food

Yield Serves 4

Number Of Ingredients 1

600g chicken, cut into 10 - 12 pieces 1 tsp sesame seed, for garnish For the marinade: 1 tbsp light soy sauce ½ tbsp sesame oil 50 ml Chinese cooking wine For Sesame Oil Chicken: 4 tbsp sesame oil, for frying 80g ginger, julienned 2 tbsp light soy sauce 2 tsp dark soy sauce 2 tsp oyster sauce 60 ml chinese cooking wine ¼ tsp ground white pepper 1 stalk spring onion, sliced to 2cm lengths

Steps:

  • Marinate The Chicken. Place the chicken in a bowl. Add light soy sauce, sesame oil, Chinese cooking oil and white pepper into the boil. Mix well and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
  • Start Cooking. Heat wok and pour in 4 tablespoons of sesame oil, add ginger and fry until fragrant. Add marinated chicken and stir fry for 3-4 minutes. Add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce and oyster sauce, stir well and let it cook for 15 minutes or until sauce thickens. Add 60ml Chinese cooking wine and spring onions, stir and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Turn off heat and set aside. For a thicker sauce, after adding the last ingredient, let it cook for longer.

CRISPY SESAME CHICKEN WITH A STICKY ASIAN SAUCE

Crispy Sesame Chicken with a Sticky Asian Sauce image

Crispy Sesame Chicken with a Sticky Asian Sauce - tastier than that naughty takeaway and super simple to make. Sweet, salty, crispy, sticky and a little bit spicy - it covers all the bases for one of these meals that everyone polishes off. Its a real family favourite!

Provided by Nicky Corbishley

Categories     Dinner

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 20

5 tbsp Vegetable oil
2 eggs (lightly beaten)
3 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
10 tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
½ tsp garlic salt
2 tsp paprika
3 chicken breast fillets (chopped into bite-size chunks)
1 tbsp sesame oil (optional - you can leave out and just sprinkle with plenty of sesame seeds at the end if you prefer)
2 cloves garlic (peeled and minced)
1 tbsp Chinese rice vinegar (white wine vinegar will work too)
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce (use more or less depending on the brand and how spicy you like it)
3 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp brown sugar
4 tbsp soy sauce
Boiled rice
2 tbsp sesame seeds
Small bunch spring onions/scallions (chopped)

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan until very hot.
  • Whilst the oil is heating, place the egg in one shallow bowl and the cornflour in another shallow bowl. Add the flour, salt, pepper, garlic salt and paprika to another shallow bowl and mix together.
  • Dredge the chicken in the cornflour, then dip in the egg (make sure all of the chicken is covered in egg wash), and finally dredge it in the seasoned flour. Add to the wok and cook on a high heat for 6-7 minutes, turning two or three times during cooking, until well browned. You may need to cook in two batches (I find I can do it in one batch so long as it's no more than 3 chicken breasts). Remove from the pan and place in a bowl lined with kitchen towels.
  • Add all of the sauce ingredients to the hot wok, stir and bubble on a high heat until the sauce reduces by about a third (should take 2-3 minutes). Add the chicken back in and toss in the sauce to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and divide between four bowls. Serve with boiled rice and top with sesame seeds and spring onions.

SWEET GINGER SESAME SAUCE

Sweet Ginger Sesame Sauce image

This sweet ginger sesame sauce has so many uses. I like to use it in stir-fries and even to just season a bowl of rice. It can even be used as a dipping sauce or marinade. More recently, I found out it makes a great salad dressing as well.

Provided by EatPlant-Based.com

Categories     Sauces

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon of tahini
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1.5 teaspoon ginger root (or 2 tsp ground ginger)
3 tablespoon soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free)
2 tablespoons sweetener (agave, maple, honey, bee-free honey, etc)
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Begin by toasting some sesame seeds by placing them in a dry frying pan and heating on medium-high heat for just a few minutes. They will begin to turn a golden brown and start popping up out of the pan. Do not leave the pan unattended because it will burn quickly.
  • Once the seeds are lightly browned, remove them from the heat and pour them into a small mixing bowl.
  • Next, peel and grate fresh ginger root. Though ground ginger can be substituted in this recipe, I feel that fresh ginger is what really makes the taste pop.
  • Mince the garlic. Personally, I like to use a garlic press for this. I used to mince my garlic up with a knife or just use the store-bought jar variety. However, over time, I realized that using a press brings out the best and freshest flavor in recipes.
  • Add all the ingredients to the bowl with the toasted sesame seeds and whisk everything together well.
