Provided by Geo B

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Asian

Time 3h5m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 medium orange, cut into quarters
1 lemon, juiced and zested
1 cup orange juice
¼ cup rice vinegar
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup honey
4 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger root
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 green onions, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
2 pounds flank steak

Steps:

  • Combine orange pieces, lemon juice, lemon zest, orange juice, rice vinegar, soy sauce, maple syrup, honey, garlic cloves, ginger, pepper, and cayenne pepper in a blender; blend until marinade is smooth. Mix in green onions.
  • Place flank steak into a shallow baking dish and pour marinade over meat, making sure marinade gets underneath the meat as well. Cover the dish, refrigerate, and marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  • Remove steak from the refrigerator and allow to come to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before grilling. Lift up steak from the dish to let juices run off; reserve marinade.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Cook flank steak on the preheated grill until it begins to firm and is reddish-pink and juicy in the center, 5 to 7 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 130 degrees F (54 degrees C).
  • Cover steak and set aside to rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  • While steak is resting, pour remaining marinade in a saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Cook until sauce is reduced, about 5 minutes. Serve with the flank steak.

ASIAN CHIMICHURRI STEAK | FOOLPROOF ASIAN FLANK STEAK MARINADE

Asian Chimichurri Steak | Foolproof Asian Flank Steak Marinade image

This foolproof Asian flank steak marinade has brown sugar, soy sauce, mirin & garlic. Marinate overnight for tender, juicy Asian marinated flank steak! Served with a spicy Asian chimichurri sauce!

Provided by Jamie

Categories     Main Course

Time 24m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1½ lb flank steak (can substitute skirt steak or flat iron)
2 Tablespoons clarified butter
spicy Asian chimichurri sauce (to serve on the side)
⅓ cup low sodium soy sauce
⅓ cup mirin
¼ cup brown sugar
2 Tablespoons avocado oil
1½ Tablespoons ginger (grated)
5 cloves garlic (minced)

Steps:

  • Place the flank steak into a large ziplock bag. Mix together the ingredients for the Asian steak marinade and add it to the flank steak. Using the plastic bag, massage the steak and make sure the marinade evenly covers the steak. Let the flank steak marinate in the fridge for at least 6 hours. Overnight is recommended.
  • Take the flank steak out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature as this ensures even cooking. Add clarified butter to a pan and heat over medium high heat until it just barely starts to smoke. Remove the steak from the bag, drip off the excess, and lay it flat on your hot pan.
  • For medium rare steak: Leave the steak to sear on one side for about 6 - 7 minutes for a 1 inch thick steak. Then flip it over and leave it to sear on the other side for another 6 - 7 minutes. If using a meat thermometer, check that the internal temperature of your steak is 130° which will get you a medium rare done steak. Adjust the cooking time according to how you like your steak.
  • Place the steak on a plate, loosely cover with foil, and let it rest for 5 - 6 minutes to let the juices redistribute into the meat. Serve the flank steak with spicy Asian chimichurri sauce.

MARINADE DONE RIGHT...ASIAN FLANK STEAK

Marinade Done Right...Asian Flank Steak image

My Asian Style Grilled and Marinated Flank Steak is full of flavor, texture and that mmmmmm savory umami balance on your palate that makes you beg for more and more.

Provided by Mila Furman

Categories     Steak

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 pounds flank steak
1/4 cup vegetable oil or peanut oil
1/2 cup LOW sodium soy sauce (I always use Kikkoman)
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
1/4 cup honey
juice of 1 lime
a few squirts of siracha (depending on how spicy you like it)
Thumb sized piece of ginger (minced on a microplaner)
5 garlic cloves minced on a micro planer.
4 scallions sliced thinly

Steps:

  • Combine soy sauce, balsamic vinegar (this is what gives that tangy, savory flavor) honey, teriyaki sauce, ginger, lime, garlic, a few squirts of siracha, vegetable oil and scallions into a bowl and mix to combine all the flavors.
  • Then throw all the ingredients in a zip lock bag along with the steak. Shake, shake, shake. Make sure it's all covered.
  • Place in the fridge for at least an hour and up to 24 hours.
  • If you live in the not so warm parts...like me... you can cheat a bit. Take a large oven proof frying pan and place it into a 500-degree oven for about 10 minutes. Or you can place it in there as the oven preheats.
  • Remove your steak out of the bag and place it on a paper towel, dabbing the moisture off of the steak.
  • Once the pan is heated, place the steak directly onto the pan. You will see it shrink up immediately from the high heat. Close the oven and allow to cook for 5 minutes then flip it and cook it for 2 minutes.
  • For me, this is the ultimate way to sear a steak nicely without clouding my house up with smoke.
  • Place the steak on a sheet pan and cover with foil. Let the meat rest for 10 minutes.
  • Slice into it on a bias, against the grain, as we previously discussed.
  • Sprinkle with scallions and grab some chop sticks! Dinner is served.

ASIAN MARINATED FLANK STEAK

Asian Marinated Flank Steak image

I originally got the idea for this out of Sunset Magazine, and have tweaked it to suit my family and friends. It makes a great OAMC entree for the grill, or to take camping. I've used this on chicken and salmon as well as beef, just reducing the marinating time appropriately. Don't use ground (dry) ginger in this- the flavor is not the same.

THE ULTIMATE ASIAN FLANK STEAK MARINADE

The Ultimate Asian Flank Steak Marinade image

It's hard to beat the classic combination of soy sauce and honey when it comes to steak marinades. But toss in garlic, ginger, scallions and a splash of balsamic vinegar (my secret ingredient), and you've just whisked together the best-ever bath for your favorite cuts of beef. This marinade was legendary in my house growing up. And I have vivid memories of my mom prepping the marinade a day in advance so that the flank steak could go for an overnight soak before being grilled over an open flame. The result was a perfectly seared steak with a caramelized crust (shout-out to the honey) and a tender center that offerred hints of the sweet and tangy flavors from the Asian-inspired blend. A quick tip for marinades: Make the most of sealable plastic bags to minimize cleanup and provide easy opportunities to swish the ingredients around the food item so it gets an even coating on all sides. • Zest all of the oranges to make approximately 4 tablespoons of zest. Add 2 tablespoons of the zest to a gallon freezer bag and 2 tablespoons to the bowl of a food processor for the chimichurri sauce. Squeeze the juice from 2 of the oranges into the gallon freezer bag and save the other orange for another use. Set 1 cup of the canola oil aside for the chimichurri to add later, and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of the canola oil to the freezer bag with 5 of the peeled garlic cloves roughly chopped or smashed. Add the other peeled and smashed garlic cloves to the food processor. Roughly chop the peeled and smashed ginger and add half to the marinade and half to the food processor along with the fresh herbs, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil. To finish the chimichurri sauce, pulse the herb mixture while drizzling in the 1 cup of canola oil. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  • To finish off the marinade, add the soy sauce and brown sugar to the gallon bag, seal the bag and massage the marinade together, add the steak, seal, and marinade at room temperature for 30 minutes or refrigerate up to 24 hours.
  • Preheat the grill to high. Pull the steak from the marinade and allow to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes if refrigerated. Place the steak on the hot grill ad baste with the remaining marinade, cooking for for 5-7 minutes on each side for medium rare, or until steaks come to 125 degrees F. Transfer to a plate or cutting board and rest for 10 minutes.
  • Going against the grain, cut the flank steak into thin slices and dress with the chimichurri sauce and serve.
