1 pound ground turkey
½ cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce, finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
4 slices mozzarella cheese
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat, and lightly oil grate. Place the ground turkey, onion, cilantro, chipotle chile pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl; mix well. Form into 4 patties.
  • Cook the hamburgers on the preheated grill until the turkey is no longer pink in the center, about 4 minutes per side. Place the mozzarella slices on the patties 2 minutes before they are ready. Serve on the toasted buns.

2 teaspoons olive oil
2 shallots, finely diced
2 pounds extra-lean ground turkey
2 apples, grated (1 cup packed)
2 teaspoons chipotle powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly cracked pepper
1/3 cup greek yogurt
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 chipotle chili in adobo sauce, chopped
1 teaspoon adobo sauce
8 Whole grain English muffins or 8 large leaves of Boston lettuce
1 apple, sliced in 8 thin rounds
8 slices strong cheddar

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, place the olive oil and saute the shallots on medium heat until translucent. Let cool. In a large bowl, place the shallots and the rest of the ingredients "For the burgers". Mix until just combined. Form into 8 patties and reserve on a plate in the fridge until ready to cook. In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients For the chipotle yogurt and reserve. Preheat the grill to high. Grill until properly cooked through, 13-15 minutes, flipping half-way through. During the last minute of cooking, add 1 slice of cheddar on the burger and cover the grill pan to let the cheese melt. Serve over English muffin or in lettuce cups with 1 slice of apple, lettuce and a dollop of chipotle yogurt. Serve with a side of sweet potato wedges.

YUM! And 99% fat free, according to Rachel Ray. I saw this on her show the other day and was so inspired I went out and bought ground turkey breast. It sounds weird to include apples but it makes these REALLY incredible!!! (Try the cranberry mayo idea too--see the recipe instructions!)

1 (1 1/3 lb) package ground turkey
1 small mcintosh apple, finely chopped
1 small white onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, from heart, finely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
salt and pepper
vegetable oil, for drizzling

Steps:

  • Combine turkey, apple, onion, celery, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper in a bowl and form into 4 large patties.
  • Preheat a large skillet or a grill pan to medium high heat.
  • Drizzle skillet or brush grill with vegetable oil and cook patties 5 to 6 minutes on each side.
  • Serve with FF mayo mixed with cranberry sauce for a gourmet touch, on toasted sourdough english muffins!

I saw this recipe on Oprah one day but i switched around a few ingredients to make it more affordable. I like to use Granny Smith apples and I don't really use measurements, so dabble with your own! These burgers taste best when grilled ( I use my Foreman) but they taste just as good when pan frying. If your in a hurry for a meal, you can skip the 2 hours in the fridge. Thats just used to insure your burgers will stay together while cooking. This is one of the BEST turkey burgers I've ever had and I hope you enjoy it just as much as me! :)

1 cup onion, small pieces
1 cup celery, small pieces
1 large apple, small pieces
2 lbs ground turkey
2 tablespoons chipotle hot sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons parsley
1 dash salt and pepper
cooking oil or cooking spray

Steps:

  • Heat oil or pan with cooking spray. Sauté your finely chopped onion, celery, and apple with the added dash of salt and pepper. When the mixture becomes soft, take off the burner and let cool.
  • Once cooled take your ground turkey and mix the chipotle hot sauce, lemon juice, parsley and sauté ed mixture.
  • Make into burger patties and set in the fridge for atleast 2 hours before cooking.
  • When grilling cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Let them cool down and enjoy!

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons minced red onion

1 tablespoon minced canned chipotle chilies*
1 tablespoon drained capers
1 pound ground turkey
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
4 red onion slices
8 plum tomato slices
2 bunches arugula (about 1 ounce)

Steps:

  • Whisk first 6 ingredients in small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. (Sauce can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and chill.)
  • Prepare barbecue (medium heat). Form ground turkey into four 1/2-inch-thick patties. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill burgers until cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. Grill buns until just toasted. Spread 1 tablespoon sauce on bottom half of each bun. Top each with 1 burger, then 1 more tablespoon sauce. Top each with 1 onion slice, 2 tomato slices, then 1/2 bunch arugula. Cover with bun tops. Serve, passing remaining chipotle tartar sauce separately.

2 -3 garlic cloves, minced
1 canned chipotle chile in adobo, chopped
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 1/4 teaspoons cayenne (optional)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh coarse ground black pepper
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 hamburger buns
ketchup (optional)
mayonnaise (optional)
lettuce (optional)

Steps:

  • Place turkey, garlic, chipotle, oregano, mustard, chili powder, cumin and cayenne, if using, in a bowl. Using your hands, mix until ingredients are evenly incorporated. Divide mixture into 4 balls of equal size. Form each into a patty 3/4 to 1-inch thick. Handle as little as possible.
  • Prepare a grill to medium-high. Brush grill grate with oil.
  • Sprinkle both sides of burgers with salt and pepper. Place on grate and grill until well seared on both sides, about 5 minutes for medium-rare or 6 minutes for medium.
  • If cooking indoors, place a cast-iron skillet over high heat. Add burgers pan coated with cooking spray. Cook until well seared on both sides, 8 to 10 minutes for medium-rare or 10 to 12 minutes for medium.
  • When the burgers are almost done grilling, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Also, place the buns, cut sides down, on the grill to toast; remove when lightly browned.
  • Serve the grilled patties and toasted buns along with the remaining fixings.

1/2 cup chopped peeled red apple
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
3/4 teaspoon lemon pepper

1/8-1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice
1/2 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup apple jelly
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the first 6 ingredients.
  • Form mixture into 4 patties and set aside.
  • In a small saucepan, mix together the chili sauce and apple jelly.
  • Put saucepan over medium heat; cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally; set aside to cool slightly.
  • Spray broiler pan with cooking spray.
  • Broil patties 6 inches from heat for 4 to 6 minutes.
  • Turn patties and broil 4 to 6 minutes longer or until patties are no longer pink.
  • Place burgers on bottom halves of buns.
  • Top each with 2 tablespoons of sauce.
  • Cover with top halves of buns.
  • Cooking time for the burgers may vary since I seem to have a very hot oven.
