Almond Fudge Topped Shortbread Food
FUDGE-TOPPED SHORTBREAD
This combination of buttery shortbread and sweet chocolate is wonderful. Whenever I make it, there's nothing but crumbs left. Be sure to cut these into small squares because they're very rich. -Valarie Wheeler, DeWitt, Michigan

Steps:
- In a bowl, cream butter, sugar and salt until fluffy. Gradually beat in flour. Spread into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° until lightly browned, 16-20 minutes. , In a microwave-safe bowl, combine condensed milk and chocolate chips. Microwave, uncovered, on high until chips are melted, 30-60 seconds; stir until smooth. Stir in extract. Spread over the shortbread. Sprinkle with almonds and press down. Refrigerate until firm. Cut into squares.

Steps:
- Pre-heat oven to 180C (Gas Mark 4)
- Mix Flour and Caster Sugar in a bowl
- Rub in the Butter/Margarine until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
- Add the Ground Almond
- Press mixture into a baking tray
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until firm to the touch and very lightly brown
- Cool in the tin

- Beat butter, powdered sugar and salt in large bowl until fluffy. Add flour; stir until well blended. With floured hands, press evenly into prepared pan.
- Bake 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Shortly before end of baking time, melt chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until chips are melted. Remove from heat; stir in almond extract. Spread evenly over baked shortbread. Sprinkle with almonds; press down firmly. Cool.
- Refrigerate 3 hours or until firm. Cut into bars. Store covered at room temperature. *For a crisper shortbread reduce butter to 1/2 cup (1 stick).
