This is a great variation to the traditional Amish Friendship Bread. My family says it's like eating chocolate cake. This bread freezes well and makes a great gift.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
1 cup vegetable oil
½ cup milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, stir together all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, chocolate pudding. Make a well in the center of this mixture. Add Amish friendship bread starter, vegetable oil, milk, eggs and vanilla extract; mix well. Pour batter into prepared loaf pans.
  • Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean, about 60 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before removing from pan.

1 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 (3 1/2 ounce) box instant pudding mix (any flavor)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325.
  • Combine oil, sugar, vanilla, eggs, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Add flour, milk, soda, pudding, and baking powder. Mix well.
  • Grease 2 large loaf pans and sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Pour batter into pans and sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  • Bake for 1 hour.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325'.
  • To the remaining batter add eggs, baking powder, oil, baking soda, milk, vanilla, 1 cup sugar, flour, salt, pudding, 2 tsp cinnamon, zucchini (make sure the excess liquid is squeezed out), and nuts.
  • Note: It is easier to mix if you combine the dry ingredients (except for sugar and pudding) in another bowl then add it slowly to the batter.
  • Grease bottom and sides of 2 large loaf pans or spray with Pam. Mix ½ cup sugar and 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon in a small bowl. Dust the insides of each of the pans with half of the mixture, making sure to cover the bottom and sides well.
  • Pour batter evenly into the 2 pans and sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture over top of the batter.
  • Bake for about 75 minutes but start checking after 50 minutes. Remove when toothpick comes out clean. Cool until the bread loosens from the pan easily. Turn onto serving dish. May be served warm or cold. Enjoy.

  • Use banana cream pie pudding and two mashed bananas. I have also added 1/4 cup of chocolate chip to this on occasion. I use the small bundt pans and bake for about 40 - 50 minutes. ~~~or~~~ For banana walnut bread, I substitute banana cream pudding mix, 1/3 cup chopped walnuts and a mashed banana, and omit the cinnamon. ~~~or~~~ Add 1 cup of grated zucchini. Make sure you squeeze out the excess liquid. bake for about 75 minutes but start checking after 50 minutes.

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in water in a small bowl. Let stand 10 minutes. Combine 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1 cup sugar in a 2-quart container. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added.
