BAKED BEEF ZITI
If you thought you couldn't indulge in favorites (this recipe features both pasta and beef) and still stay on a healthy eating schedule, you'll be thrilled to know that baked ziti is not a thing of the past. After the ground beef is cooked, it's then flavored with a savory mix of dried oregano, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. The homemade sauce is then finished off with canned crush tomatoes. Layer the sauce, ziti, and mozzarella cheese in a casserole dish and let everything bake in the oven until the cheese is golden and bubbly, which should take about 30 minutes. You won't find an easier, satisfying, or more delicious ziti recipe!

- Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- Meanwhile, heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat; add garlic and cook 2 minutes. Add beef and cook until browned, breaking up meat with a spoon as it cooks, 3 to 5 minutes; drain off any fat and set pan back over medium heat.
- Add oregano, thyme, rosemary, salt and pepper; stir to coat beef. Cook until herbs become fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Spoon a small amount of beef-tomato mixture into bottom of a 4-quart casserole dish (just enough to cover surface); top with half of cooked ziti. Next, layer with half of remaining beef-tomato sauce and half of mozzarella cheese. Layer with remaining ziti and then top with remaining beef-tomato sauce; sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake until cheese is golden and bubbly, about 30 minutes. Slice into 8 pieces and serve.

- Cook the Ziti according to the package directions. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Stir 1/2 of the sauce into the noodles.
- Spoon 1/2 of the noodles into an 8X8 inch pan that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine the egg white, cottage cheese, basil, parsley and 1 Tablespoon of Parmesan Cheese. Spoon the cheese mixture evenly over the noodles. Top with the remaining noodles and pour the rest of the sauce on top. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan Cheese. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until bubbly. Add mozzarella cheese and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Allow to sit 5 minutes before serving.
CHEESY BAKED ZITI WITH BEEF
Steps:
- Gather the ingredients.
- Heat the oven to 350 F. Lightly butter a 2 1/2-quart baking dish. Bring a big pot of water to a boil.
- Drizzle the olive oil in a very large skillet or sauté pan and place it over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring until the onion is tender and the beef is no longer pink.
- Drain off the excess fat and then add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- While the meat is simmering, cook the ziti in the boiling salted water until just al dente. The pasta needs to still have some bite as it will continue cooking in the oven. Set aside.
- Add the cooked pasta and half of the mozzarella cheese to the pan with the meat sauce.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Top the casserole with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Bake the ziti for 25 to 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

- In a large mixing bowl combine cottage cheese, mozzarella, oregano, basil and black pepper. In the Crock Pot, spoon 1/4 of marinara onto the bottom, add 1 cup penne shells, 1/3 of zucchini slices and top with 1 cup cheese mixture. Repeat until you have 3 layers. Top off with the remaining marinara and lastly, cheese. Note: Keep penne shells and cheese away from the edges by about 1-inch. Pasta tends to get hard and cheese burns if allowed to touch the sides while cooking. Cover and cook on low for approximately 2 hours or until penne noodles are Al Dente (firm but not hard). Not all crock pots cook the same so be sure that the penne is done before serving. The cook time is recommended based on the crock pot used when preparing this recipe. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving. Tip: If you prefer your ziti a little more on the thick side, allow to cook an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour. I added chicken to this meal by boiling 4 chicken breasts until just cooked and then cutting up into chunks and layering with the pasta. That way I got my serving of protein.
