The Best Garlic Bread image

We went very classic with this garlic bread recipe-lots of butter and lots of garlic loaded onto warm, soft and pillowy French bread. You could make a light meal by rounding it out with a crisp green salad. Or serve it our favorite way-alongside your favorite red-sauce pasta.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 large soft Italian or French loaf
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
Kosher salt
2 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley leaves, finely chopped

Steps:

  • Arrange a rack in the center of oven and preheat to 450 degrees F.
  • Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter is golden and the garlic is very fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  • Slice the bread in half lengthwise. Liberally brush the crust with the garlic butter. Turn the bread cut-side up. Slice each loaf crosswise at 2-inch intervals without cutting all the way through, making "pull-apart" garlic bread. Liberally brush the cut sides of the bread with more garlic butter, spreading any remaining garlic evenly over top. You should use all the garlic butter. Carefully transfer the bread to a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle the loaves with the Parmesan and a pinch of salt and bake until the edges of the bread are a deep golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Top with the parsley. Serve warm.

This easy homemade BEST garlic bread recipe has fresh herbs, tons of flavorful roasted garlic, and is perfectly toasted. This garlic bread is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

1 pound Italian loaf or French loaf
1/2 cup softened unsalted butter (can also use salted)*
4 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
⅛ teaspoon sea salt
Optional:
¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
OR
½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
For garnishing:
Extra parsley and chives

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Slice bread in half lengthwise and place on a large baking sheet, cut sides up.
  • In a medium bowl, mix butter, garlic, parsley and salt together until well combined. Spread evenly over bread.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until slightly golden brown on the edges. If you want to add cheese, add it the last 2 minutes of baking. If you like a crispier garlic bread, bake for 3-5 minutes more, watching carefully until it is as golden as you like.

We've been told by others this garlic bread is "the best" they've had (including the big-named Italian restaurant chain... yes, you know who we're talking about.) It's simple (only four ingredients!) crispy, garlicky, and flavorful. You can also cook it by pan frying, broiling or grilling. It doesn't get soggy and the garlic doesn't burn before the bread toasts. It's all in the technique, baby!

1 baguette of good french sourdough bread (bread quality is important... we like Seattle Sourdough's Brown-and-Serve Baguette as it doesn't ove)
4 ounces butter
3 whole fresh garlic cloves
non-iodized salt (table grind sea salt or fine kosher salt)

Steps:

  • Peel and smash the garlic with the smooth face of a tenderizer mallet, the flat of a large knife or similar tool. Set aside.
  • In a heavy-bottomed sauce pan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Simmer the butter and watch the bubbles. When the bubbles change from larger, steamy bubbles to small bubbles that don't give off steam, the butter is ready. (You've just basically clarified your butter but not strained out the solids.).
  • Turn the heat to low and add the garlic. Simmer slowly until the garlic begins to brown and is very fragrant. This can take 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat.
  • Slice the bread on a diagonal and dip one side in the butter mixture, or if you want less fat, you can paint it by brushing the butter on one side.
  • Salt your bread according to your personal taste.
  • Toast the bread by any one of three methods: broil, grill or pan fry. (We're fans of broiling personally, but all three methods can yield delicious results.) Cook the buttered side by your favorite method until golden brown.
  • Serve immediately.

Outrageous Garlic Bread image

12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 head garlic, cloves separated and peeled
1 cup freshly grated Italian Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 (20 to 24-inch-long) crusty French baguette
Fleur de sel or sea salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. (Make sure your oven is clean or it will smoke!)
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the garlic, stir to coat with the butter, and cook, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the garlic is very tender. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside until cool enough to handle. Mash the garlic in the butter with a fork. Stir in the Parmesan, parsley, lemon zest, red pepper flakes, 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
  • Slice the baguette in half lengthwise and place both halves, cut sides up, on a cutting board. Score each half diagonally (don't cut all the way through) in large serving-size pieces. Spoon all of the garlic mixture generously on the cut sides of the bread. Cut each half of the baguette in half crosswise along a score and place the 4 pieces on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, until the topping is bubbly and starting to brown and the bread is crisp. Transfer to a board, cut in serving pieces along the scores, sprinkle with fleur de sel, and serve warm.
