This easy homemade maple flavored syrup is perfect for pancakes!

1 cup water
1 and 1/3 cups sugar
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. whiskey (I used Bushmills Irish Whiskey)
1 tsp. maple extract (or imitation maple flavoring)

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, whisk all ingredients together and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Whisk occasionally and simmer for 20-25 minutes until syrup has thickened.
  • Pour over pancakes or waffles and serve immediately. You can store extra syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for several months - just reheat it whenever you need it!

2 chicken breast halves, boneless, skinless
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
3 tablespoons whiskey (I use Jack Daniel's)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Rub thyme over both sides of chicken breasts.
  • Combine syrup, whiskey and oil. Pour over chicken breasts.
  • Marinate breasts in the refrigerator for several hours.
  • Grill or broil breasts, about 6 minutes per side, basting frequently with marinade for a shiny brown glaze. (glaze will burn easily if not watched carefully).

1 1/2 cups whipping cream
5 tablespoons real maple syrup
3 tablespoons corn syrup
1 tablespoon whiskey (or other appropriate liquor of choice)

Steps:

  • Combine whipping cream, maple syrup, and corn syrup in saucepan and whisk well.
  • Bring to a light simmer over medium to medium-low heat.
  • Simmer 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beginning to thicken and reduce.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in whiskey.
  • Return to heat and return to a simmer, stirring, 3-5 minutes to cook off the alcohol.
  • Pour into container and refrigerate until cold.
  • This will thicken significantly in the fridge but still be pourable.
  • Drizzle, cold, over warm pecan pie (or just eat with a spoon)!

I've tweaked this recipe over the years to something I proudly serve with my pulled pork and ribs. It's also delicious on chicken. As the sauce simmers, it will develop a deep, rich color and flavor. The sauce tastes best if made a day ahead of time.

1 cup ketchup
⅓ cup maple whiskey (such as Crown Royal Maple®)
⅓ cup apple cider
¼ cup dark molasses
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Combine ketchup, maple whiskey, apple cider, dark molasses, apple cider vinegar, pure maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a saucepan. Whisk together over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until thickened, 25 to 30 minutes. Sauce will thicken further upon cooling.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze for future use.
