  • Dairy. Lactose is a sugar found in milk and dairy products. It is broken down in the body by an enzyme called lactase, which is necessary in order for lactose to be properly digested and absorbed.
  • Gluten. Gluten is the general name given to proteins found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale. Several conditions relate to gluten, including celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity and wheat allergy.
  • Caffeine. Caffeine is a bitter chemical that is found in a wide variety of beverages, including coffee, soda, tea and energy drinks. It’s a stimulant, meaning it reduces fatigue and increases alertness when consumed.
  • Salicylates. Salicylates are natural chemicals that are produced by plants as a defense against environmental stressors like insects and disease (18).
  • Amines. Amines are produced by bacteria during food storage and fermentation and found in a wide variety of foods. Though there are many types of amines, histamine is most frequently associated with food-related intolerances.

THE MOST COMMON FOOD INTOLERANCES THAT AREN'T ALLERGIES

From verywellhealth.com
  • Dairy Products. There are two primary reasons you may not be able to tolerate dairy products: Many people are lactose intolerant. This means that they lack enough lactase, a digestive enzyme necessary to digest the lactose sugar that's present in dairy products.
  • Gluten. Gluten is a protein found in barley, wheat, and rye. It must be totally avoided by individuals who have celiac disease. People with celiac disease are truly allergic to gluten.
  • Eggs. Eggs have the notorious distinction of being on the top list of allergy foods for children. Often, this allergy is outgrown, but adults may develop egg intolerance.
  • Caffeine. Those with caffeine sensitivity may be able to have small amounts of coffee, tea, or other caffeinated foods or beverages. However, they may need to stick to very small servings to avoid symptoms such as jitteriness or headaches.
  • Salicylates. Salicylates are naturally occurring chemicals found in many types of plants that are used to produce a variety of foods, beverages, and medications.
