GREEN BEANS WITH FRESH HERBS AND WALNUTS



Green Beans with Fresh Herbs and Walnuts image

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 pounds green beans
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 large onions, sliced thin
2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary leaves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1/2 cup walnuts, roughly chopped

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil; add a big pinch of salt and the green beans. Cook for about 5 minutes, the beans should still be crisp, they will be cooked more in the oven. Drain them and set aside.
  • Melt the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the onions caramelize, about 20 to 25 minutes. Add the thyme, rosemary and chives, and cook for another 5 minutes. Add the green beans and walnuts, and stir well. Season, to taste.

1/2 pound green beans, trimmed
2 tablespoons California walnuts, chopped
2 teaspoons walnut oil (or olive oil)
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons parsley, fresh, finely chopped
2 tablespoons red onion, chopped
Salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water with a steamer basket to a boil, add green beans and steam for 5 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  • Toast the walnuts in a small dry skillet over a medium heat until they become fragrant, about 2 minutes, and then transfer them to a small bowl. Add the parsley and onion to the walnuts and stir to combine.
  • In another small bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar and mustard.
  • Toss the dressing with the green beans, top with the walnut mixture and season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

2 pounds fresh green beans, washed and trimmed
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons walnut oil
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
ground black pepper to taste
salt to taste

Steps:

  • Place the walnuts on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Cook beans in large pot of boiling salted water until just tender, about 5 minutes. Drain. Rinse beans with cold water, and drain well. Can be prepared 6 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.
  • Melt butter or margarine with oil in heavy large skillet over high heat. Add beans and toss until heated through, about 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add walnuts and parsley and toss. Transfer to bowl and serve.

Toast 1/2 cup chopped walnuts with 1/2 teaspoon each kosher salt, pepper and sugar in a skillet with olive oil,5 minutes; remove to a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons oil, 3 sliced garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons chopped marjoram to the skillet. Cook, stirring, until softened, 1 minute.   • Cover and steam green beans in steamer basket over boiling water for 8-12 minutes.
  • Plunge beans in cold water to stop cooking process.

  • Cook until everything is thoroughly heated.

8 garlic cloves
1 chicken bouillon cube
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup olive oil
1 cup chopped walnuts

  • Wash and cut green beans.
  • Steam until al dente.
  • Meanwhile, put peeled garlic cloves, bouillon cube, salt and pepper, and olive oil in blender.
  • Blend until smooth.

1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 to 2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Place beans in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Cook, uncovered, for 8-10 minutes or until crisp-tender; drain. , In a large skillet over medium heat; cook walnuts in oil for 1-2 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add beans, garlic, seasoned salt and pepper. Cook until heated through.

3 lbs small green beans
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine
12 sliced green onions
2/3 cup chopped walnuts, , toasted
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped, crushed fresh rosemary or 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped, crushed dried rosemary
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons grated fresh lemon rind

Steps:

  • Sprinkle beans with salt, and arrange in a steamer basket over boiling water.
  • Cover and steam 8 to 12 minutes or until crisp-tender.
  • Plunge beans into cold water to stop the cooking process; drain.
  • Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat; add green onions, and saute until tender.
  • Add green beans, walnuts, rosemary, and lemon juice; cook, stirring constantly, until thoroughly heated.
  • Sprinkle with lemon rind.
  • Serve immediately.

1 pound green beans, trimmed and cut into 2 inch pieces
1 cup water
½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
½ cup chopped walnuts
¼ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add green beans; cook and stir for about 5 minutes. Mix in the walnuts, and pour in water. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes, or until very little water is left in the pan.
  • Add the salt, white sugar, and brown sugar; stir until beans and walnuts are evenly coated. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 5 more minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly before serving.
